Primary packing, probe packing, and o-rings
Mobilize both tools and equipment to the field prior to their use to ensure that new
primary packing is available. Primary packing must be replaced whenever performing a
retrieval operation.
The standard primary packing is made of PTFE and its part number is indicated below.
Always confirm with project documentation whether a special primary packing is
applicable (for example, PEEK or metallic primary packing).
Depending on the type of mechanical plug, a guide o-ring is also applicable, and should be
replaced in case there are signs of wear.
If a standard hollow plug is in use, the probe packing must also be replaced whenever
performing a retrieval operation. Standard probe packing is made of PTFE, but special
materials may be applicable. Always confirm with project documentation if a special
material is applicable (such as PEEK).
