50 hour maintenance (more frequently in dusty or dirty
conditions)
Lubricate the gearcase. To do this, first remove the gearcase
from the outer tube (Fig. 55).
IMPORTANT! Do not remove the D-shaped washer from the
gearcase clamp! This washer prevents damage from overtight-
ening the tube clamp screw.
1. Loosen the gearcase clamp screw.
2. Remove the index screw from the gearcase.
3. Remove the upper tube from the gearcase. Using a
grease gun, pump lithium-based grease (about 10 g) into
the grease fitting on the gearcase (Fig. 56) until you see
old grease being purged out from the gearcase, which
can be seen in the outer tube cavity. Clean up excess
grease, then reassemble the gearcase onto the outer
tube. Make sure the index screw fits into the hole on the
outer tube. Securely tighten both bolts.
