The ETAS ES650.1 is an A/D and Thermo Module designed for measuring analog input voltages and temperatures, primarily for applications in the automotive sector. It is a robust and compact device, part of the ES6xx series of measurement and interface modules, engineered for use in harsh environmental conditions such as vehicle interiors, passenger cells, or trunks. It is not suitable for installation in engine compartments or similar environments.
Function Description:
The ES650.1 provides eight galvanically isolated measurement channels for analog voltages and eight galvanically isolated measurement channels for thermocouples. This isolation ensures accuracy even when the housing is not uniformly heated and protects against common-mode interference. The module is designed for high sampling rates, high resolution, and accuracy across its extensive ambient temperature range.
For analog input voltages, the module offers two input voltage ranges: ±10 V DC and ±60 V DC. The resolution for these channels is 16 bits, with an inaccuracy of 2 mV in the 10 V range and 12 mV in the 60 V range. Each analog input channel features a 4th order low-pass hardware input filter with a cutoff frequency of 1 kHz and a maximum overshooting of 3%. Additionally, a digital Bessel 2nd order low-pass filter with an adjustable cutoff frequency (between 1 Hz and 1 kHz with 1 Hz resolution) can be enabled or disabled. When set to automatic, the digital filter's cutoff frequency is 0.5 times the sample rate.
For temperature measurements, the ES650.1 supports B-, E-, J-, K-, N-, R-, S-, and T-type thermocouples. The thermocouple channels have a resolution of 21 bits, corresponding to 0.01 K for J-, K-, and N-type thermocouples. Each thermocouple channel is equipped with cold junction compensation directly in the connector to ensure accuracy. The maximum measuring range for thermocouples varies depending on the type, from -210 °C to +1,820 °C. The sampling rate for thermocouple inputs is configurable from 0.1 to 10 samples/sec per channel, and a 10 Hz cutoff frequency is applied.
The module features a powerful Ethernet interface for high-speed data exchange with a host PC. It supports synchronous data acquisition, even in large module networks, by superimposing a periodic synchronization signal onto the Ethernet signals. This prevents phase shifts between individual signals from different modules.
The ES650.1 also incorporates an automatic power-saving feature. It switches from a power-saving standby mode to operation mode when it receives link pulses via the Ethernet interface from a connected PC. If no link signals are received, it automatically returns to standby mode after a delay.
Configuration and data acquisition for the ES650.1 are exclusively performed via software, specifically using INCA's graphical user interface (GUI). INCA V4.0 or higher is required for configuration, and INCA V5.2.1 and HSP4.1 are necessary for using B-, E-, R-, S-, and T-type thermocouples.
