Do you have a question about the Euro-Pro SHARK GI475 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

This document describes the Shark Professional Steam Iron with Headlight, Model G1475, a household appliance designed for ironing various fabrics.

Function Description:

The Shark Professional Steam Iron is designed to remove wrinkles from fabrics through a combination of heat, steam, and pressure. It offers both dry and steam ironing capabilities, along with specialized features like a burst of steam, atomizer spray, and vertical steam for different ironing needs. The integrated headlight provides shadow-free ironing, enhancing visibility during use.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model: G1475
  • Voltage: 120 V.
  • Frequency: 60 Hz
  • Warranty: One (1) Year Limited Warranty from EURO-PRO Operating LLC, covering defects in material and workmanship under normal household use.
  • Plug Type: Polarized plug (one blade wider than the other) for safety.

Usage Features:

General Operation:

  • First Use Preparation: Before initial use, remove all labels, stickers, or tags from the iron's body or soleplate. The iron may emit an odor for up to 10 minutes during its first heating, which is normal and will not reoccur. For steam ironing, it's recommended to allow the iron to heat, hold it horizontally, and press the burst of steam button several times to clear any small particles from the steam holes.
  • Filling the Water Tank: The iron can be filled with regular tap water, though distilled or demineralized water is recommended in hard water areas. To fill, hold the iron at a slight angle and pour water slowly into the water filling inlet, up to the "MAX" water level marking. Do not overfill. Ensure the iron is unplugged before filling.
  • Temperature Control: The iron features a temperature control dial with settings indicated by 1, 2, and 3 dots, corresponding to low, moderate, and high temperatures. Users should align the selected temperature on the dial with the indicator on the water tank. An "Ironing Chart" is provided to guide temperature selection based on fabric type (synthetic fibers, silk, wool, cotton, linen).
  • Temperature Ready Light: A thermostat ready light indicates when the iron has reached the preset temperature. It goes on and off as the thermostat maintains the selected temperature.
  • Dry Ironing: All marked settings on the temperature dial can be used for dry ironing. To activate dry ironing, slide the variable steam control lever all the way down to "0" to cut off steam flow if water is in the tank.
  • Steam Ironing: To activate steam ironing, set the temperature dial within the red steam band and the variable steam control to the desired steam level (Minimum Steam to Maximum Steam). Steam is produced when the iron is held horizontally and stops when placed on its heel in a vertical position or when the steam control is set to "0".
  • Automatic Shut-Off: A safety function engages after approximately 7 minutes of non-use. The auto shut-off indicator light will flash. To reset, lift the iron and gently rock it back and forth several times horizontally.
  • Headlight: The integrated headlight provides shadow-free ironing. To keep it on, hold the headlight plunger switch, push it in, and turn it clockwise. It turns off when the iron is placed on its heel rest. To turn it off, hold the plunger switch, push it in, and turn it counter-clockwise.

Specialized Features:

  • Burst of Steam: Provides extra, sudden blasts of steam to remove stubborn wrinkles from fabrics like denim, cotton, or linen. It can be used with both dry and steam ironing. To use, ensure the water tank is at least half-filled, set the temperature dial, allow the iron to heat, and then press the burst of steam button several times while holding the iron horizontally.
  • Vertical Steam: This function uses the burst of steam button while holding the iron in a vertical position, useful for steaming curtains and drapes.
  • Atomizer Spray Button: Pressing this button delivers a defined jet of spray to gently moisten fabrics, aiding in removing stubborn wrinkles. It can be used with both dry and steam ironing.
  • Variable Steam Control: Allows adjustment of steam output from minimum to maximum for different materials.
  • Water Filling Inlet: Designed with a cover to prevent dust and foreign matter from entering the water tank and to stop water from spilling during ironing.
  • Stainless Steel Soleplate: Provides maximum glide-ability and heat retention for efficient ironing.
  • Pivot Cord: The power cord pivots up and down, preventing dragging along the fabric and protecting the cord from fraying.

Maintenance Features:

  • Self-Cleaning: The iron includes a self-cleaning system to remove calcium and built-up particles, recommended for use at least once a month. To perform self-cleaning:
    1. Fill the water beaker halfway and pour into the water reservoir.
    2. Set the variable steam control to "no steam" position.
    3. Plug the iron into the wall socket.
    4. Set the temperature control dial to the maximum temperature.
    5. Wait until the thermostat light goes off.
    6. Unplug the iron and hold it horizontally over a sink.
    7. Turn the variable steam control to "Self-Clean" position. Hot water and steam will be emitted from the soleplate. Swing the iron gently back and forth to dislodge lime and dust particles.
    8. Once the reservoir is empty, shift the variable steam control from "Self-Clean" to "0".
    9. Stand the iron upright and plug it in to heat up again.
    10. Move the iron over a clean cotton cloth to clean the soleplate and evaporate remaining water.
  • Built-in Anti-Calcium Filter: Prevents calcium build-up and prolongs the life of the iron.
  • Anti-Drip Function: This feature helps reduce water spots by cutting off water flow when the iron temperature is too low to build sufficient steam. While it reduces dripping, it does not prevent all dripping or stains, especially if the steam burst button is pressed too often or if the temperature is too low. The amount of water droplets will decrease after 2-3 tankfuls of steaming and ironing.
  • Storage: After each use, empty the water tank, set the variable steam control to "0" and the temperature control dial to "MIN", and unplug the iron. Allow the iron to cool completely and store it in an upright position to protect the soleplate.
  • Cleaning Exterior: From time to time, clean the exterior of the iron with a damp cloth and wipe dry. Do not use scouring pads, abrasive or chemical cleaners, or solvents, as these can scratch or damage the surface.
  • Soleplate Cleaning: If spray starch is used, wipe the soleplate occasionally with a soft damp cloth to prevent deposit build-up.
  • Pre-Ironing for Infrequent Use: If the iron has not been used for a few weeks, hold it horizontally and allow it to steam for 2 minutes before ironing.

Safety Warnings:

  • Always read all instructions carefully before use.
  • Do not immerse the iron in water or other liquids.
  • Always disconnect the iron from the electrical outlet when filling, emptying, or not in use.
  • Do not operate the iron with a damaged cord or if it has been dropped or damaged. Return it to EURO-PRO Operating LLC for examination and repair.
  • Close supervision is necessary when used by or near children. Do not leave the iron unattended while connected or on an ironing board.
  • Burns can occur from touching hot metal parts, hot water, or steam. Use caution when turning a steam iron upside down.
  • Never use or rest the iron on an unstable or unprotected surface while hot.
  • Never fill the iron with fabric conditioner, starches, or any other solution, as these will damage the steam mechanism. Do not use contaminated water.
  • Do not leave the iron unattended while plugged in to avoid fire.
  • Do not use the iron in a location where it can fall or be pulled into water or other liquid. If it falls into water, unplug it immediately and do not reach into the water.
  • Do not aim the iron at the face, towards yourself, or anyone else while using or adjusting steam, as burns or serious injury may occur.
  • Always store the iron standing upright, not on the soleplate, to prevent corrosion and staining.
  • The power cord contains lead, a chemical known to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm (California Proposition 65 warning). Wash hands after handling.
  • To avoid circuit overload, do not operate another high-wattage appliance on the same circuit.
  • If an extension cord is necessary, use a 15-ampere cord and arrange it to avoid pulling or tripping.
