Overview

The Excelair Portable Air Conditioner, model EPA101A, is a versatile appliance designed for indoor use, offering cooling, heating, and ventilation functions. Manufactured by Excelsior, this unit provides a comfortable environment by regulating room temperature and humidity.

Function Description:

The primary function of the EPA101A is to provide portable air conditioning. It operates in various modes: automatic, cooling, fan (ventilation), and heating. In automatic mode, the unit intelligently switches between cooling and ventilation based on the ambient temperature. If the ambient temperature is above 23°C, it defaults to cooling mode at 24°C. If the temperature is 23°C or below, it operates in ventilation mode. The unit also features a sleep function, which gradually adjusts the set temperature and maintains low fan speed for quiet operation during sleep. This function automatically shuts down the unit after 12 hours and is not available in AUTO or FAN modes. The air conditioner is equipped with an active carbon filter to remove unwanted odors such as smoke, fumes, and animal odors from the air. It also has an ANTI-FROST function, which temporarily stops heating to melt frost during low-temperature heating operation.

Usage Features:

The unit is designed for ease of use with a control panel and a remote control.

  • Control Panel: Features buttons for Mode, Speed (ventilation), Timer, Temperature Up/Down, ON/OFF, and Sleep. It includes indicators for automatic, cooling, fan, and heating modes, as well as "Full Water," compressor operation, high/low ventilation, timer, and sleep operation. The display window shows the ambient room temperature (0°C to 50°C) or the set temperature.
  • Temperature Setting: Users can set the desired temperature between 18°C and 32°C using the 'Temperature up' or 'Temperature down' buttons.
  • Ventilation Speed: The fan speed can be set to high or low. In AUTO mode, the unit automatically selects the fan speed based on ambient temperature.
  • Timer Function: A timer allows users to set the operating duration from 1 to 12 hours, after which the unit will automatically turn off. It can also be used to pre-set a delayed start.
  • Airflow Direction: Vertical louvers can be adjusted left and right using a roller, while horizontal louvers can be manually adjusted up and down to control airflow.
  • Portability: The unit is equipped with casters for easy movement between rooms.
  • Exhaust Pipe Installation: The exhaust hose, which can be extended from 300mm to 1500mm, must be installed without kinks or bends to prevent overheating. It connects to a window slide kit for efficient expulsion of moist air.
  • Drainage: The unit collects water during cooling. A "Full Water" indicator flashes when the reservoir is full, and the unit buzzes. Water can be drained manually by removing a drain knob and rubber plug, or continuously by connecting a drain tube to a suitable drain.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance is crucial for maximizing the air conditioner's efficiency and lifespan.

  • Safety First: Always unplug the unit from the mains before cleaning.
  • Housing Cleaning: The exterior can be cleaned with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid aggressive chemicals, gasoline, detergents, or chemically treated cloths, as these can damage the cabinet.
  • Filter Cleaning: The air filters should be cleaned regularly. This involves using a vacuum cleaner or lightly tapping the filter to remove dust, then rinsing it thoroughly under running water (no hotter than 40°C). Filters must be completely dry before re-installation. The unit should never be operated without filters.
  • Active Carbon Filter: The active carbon filter is not washable and has a variable lifespan, typically requiring replacement every 6 months depending on ambient conditions.
  • End of Season Storage:
    • Drain any remaining water from the unit.
    • Operate the unit in ventilation-only mode for a few hours to thoroughly dry the interior.
    • Clean or replace the filters.
    • Unplug and store the power cord neatly.
    • Store the unit in its original carton or cover.

Safety Precautions:

  • For indoor use only.
  • Do not use in confined spaces like cabinets, closets, boats, or caravans.
  • Allow the unit to stand for 12 hours after transport or tilting before connecting to the mains supply.
  • Always use in an upright position on a flat, level surface, at least 50cm from any objects.
  • Avoid use in potentially explosive environments or near swimming pools/wet areas.
  • Do not obstruct air inlets/outlets or place objects on the unit.

  • Install in accordance with national wiring regulations.
  • Do not exceed recommended room size for maximum efficiency.
  • Keep doors, windows, curtains, or blinds closed during operation.
  • Only a licensed professional should dismantle or modify the appliance.
