Questions and Answers

Overview

The Exide Inverterz Magic is a device designed to provide continuous power supply during utility power outages by transforming Direct Current (DC) from a battery into Alternating Current (AC). The battery acts as a reservoir, ensuring a seamless transition and providing an exact replication of mains supply due to its advanced technology.

Function Description:

The primary function of the Exide Inverterz Magic is to convert DC power from a connected battery into AC power to run household appliances and electronic devices. It also features an automatic battery charge management system that allows for both normal and fast charging rates, selectable via a touch switch. When utility power is available, the device charges the battery and can pass a portion of the AC power through to connected loads. In the event of a power cut, it automatically switches to battery mode, ensuring an uninterrupted power supply. The system is designed with various protection mechanisms, including automatic overload, battery low, over-temperature, and short-circuit protection. It also offers a manual mains bypass facility, allowing the user to bypass the inverter in case of a fault.

Usage Features:

The Exide Inverterz Magic offers several user-friendly features:

  • Controlled Output Voltage: Ensures stable power delivery to connected appliances.
  • Dual Mode Charging: Allows selection between Normal and Fast charging rates via a touch switch, providing flexibility based on urgency.
  • LED Indications: Provides clear visual feedback on the device's status, including Mains ON, Back-up ON, Battery Low, Charging/Charged, Overload/Short Circuit, ON/OFF status, Fast Charging, Normal Charging, and UPS Mode.
  • Wide Mains Voltage Charging Range: Can charge batteries effectively even with fluctuating mains voltage (100V – 290V).
  • Mains Low Voltage Charging Facility: Ensures charging even when mains voltage is low.
  • Manual Mains Bypass Facility: In case of an inverter fault, users can switch to bypass mode to continue receiving mains power.
  • Great Power Saving: Designed for efficient energy consumption.
  • No Humming Noise: Operates quietly for a better user experience.
  • Application Chart: Provides guidance on the number of various appliances (Computers, Printers, TVs, Tube lights, Fans, CFLs) that can be supported by different VA models, making it ideal for computer and printer backup power.

Installation and Safety:

  • Location: Should be installed in a dry, cool, well-ventilated area (at least 5cm clearance for airflow), away from flammable liquids or batteries in the same compartment. It should be installed as close to the battery as possible to minimize DC cable length.
  • DC Cabling: Connect the negative terminal of the battery to the thick black wire and the positive terminal to the thick red wire of the system. It is crucial not to reverse battery connections to avoid blowing the DC fuse.
  • AC Cabling: Plug the power cord into a properly earthed mains socket. The AC input supply should be connected to the system's 3-way terminal (Line to 'L', Neutral to 'N', Earth to 'E'). The input supply should remain ON once installed.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Never connect the AC output of the Exide Inverterz to utility power or a DG set.
    • Connecting battery cables may cause a spark, which is normal.
    • Always turn the switch OFF before disconnecting battery cables.
    • Use only deep-cycle lead-acid batteries.
    • Do not expose the system to rain, snow, or liquids.
    • Do not disassemble the system; contact authorized service centers for repairs.
    • Disconnect all wiring before maintenance cleaning.
    • Exercise caution when working with metal tools near batteries to prevent short circuits and sparks.
    • Avoid leaving batteries in a discharged state for extended periods to prevent sulfation. Periodically recharge batteries even if not in use.
    • Ensure proper grounding of the Exide Inverterz.
    • Wear eye and clothing protection when working near batteries and have fresh water readily available in case of acid contact.
    • Never attempt to charge a frozen battery.
    • Ensure the system is OFF and AC mains are OFF before touching battery terminals.
    • Do not smoke or allow sparks/flames near batteries.
    • Remove metal items (rings, bracelets, watches) when working with electrical circuits.
    • When removing a battery, always remove the grounded terminal first.
    • Clean battery terminals carefully.
    • Add only distilled water to battery cells as per manufacturer specifications.
    • The system does not include integral AC or DC disconnects or overcurrent protection for battery supply or AC output wiring; these must be provided as part of the system installation.

Maintenance Features:

The Exide Inverterz Magic requires minimal maintenance. Users should periodically clean the exterior of the unit with a damp cloth to prevent dust and dirt accumulation, ensuring proper operation and longevity. If any issues arise, the troubleshooting guide provides solutions for common problems like no output voltage, overload, thermal shutdown, or charging issues, advising users to check connections, reduce load, reset the thermal circuit breaker, or contact service support if necessary.
