Safety Guidelines for Foiling

A Few Safety Tips to Know and Follow

Specialized equipment contributes to your own safety but does not exempt from constant care and caution. Keep in mind that wind and weather can be unpredictable.

Rule N°1 - Your Own Safety

You should never go riding alone. It is strongly recommended to practice in the company of other users who could eventually call for assistance or help in case of emergency.

Rule N°2 - Get Set Up

It is strongly recommended to wear a helmet. Choose a full-length wetsuit or a shorty depending on water temperature. An impact vest can help your evolution.

Rule N°3 - Choose Your Practice Spot

Observe local laws and regulations. Choose a good spot according to your level, favor a place that isn't choppy, with enough water depth and without reefs or shoals.

Rule N°4 - Check the Weather Conditions

Check forecasts for wind and waves. Do not go out during thunder and lightning. Keep in mind the wind can quickly die completely.

Rule N°5 - Respect & Help Out Others

Always keep an eye on your surroundings, pay attention to others, and do not hesitate to help. Do not lend your equipment to somebody that has never practiced before.

Safety Guidelines for Stand Up Paddling

1. Flat Water, Open Water; Enclosed Bodies of Water Without Currents

The rider is connected to his board by a leash. No safety or security equipment is required for beach vessels. Boards going beyond 300m need additional safety equipment.

Practicing Long Distance Itineraries

Do not go out with offshore wind that pushes you away from land more than 1 hr of paddling. Inform lifeguards of your trajectory. Carry a dry bag with communication, first aid kit, and towing apparatus.

2. Waves (Sea & Ocean)

Every surfer must be in control of his board and paddle at all times. Right of way rules of surfing apply. Leash must be equal or longer than the board.

3. In Rivers (Rapids)

In rapids, using a leash is not allowed and can be dangerous. Flotation aid is mandatory. Closed shoes must be worn. Helmet required in class 3 rapids.

Inflate The Board

Unroll the board, open the valve cap, insert the pump tip, and inflate. Use dual action mode for faster inflation, single action mode for high pressure.

Install The Fin - (US Embase)

Insert the washer plate into the fin box, slide the fin into the box, align the hole, insert the screw, and tighten.

Install The Foil Into The Tuttle Box

Insert the tuttle head of the foil into the box. Use the shorter screw in front and the longer one behind. Check regularly that screws are tightened.

Attaching The Leash

Pass the leash string into the plug and tie a clove hitch. Always use a leash in good condition, at least as long as your board.

Deflate The Board

Open the valve cap, press the rod, and turn to open. Let the board deflate, then roll it to store in its bag. Close the valve after rolling.

Maintenance

The Maintenance

Rinse the board with fresh water after each use. Keep it in your bag, away from sun and moisture. Do not allow sand or other elements into the inflation valve.
