Overview

This document describes an electric fireplace insert, model ZHS-32-D, with stock number 384-16A-20-21, manufactured by EASY TOP (HK) Enterprises Limited. It functions as an electric fireplace with heating and flame effects.

Important Safety Instructions:

The manual emphasizes several critical safety precautions. Users are warned that any use other than recommended by the manufacturer may cause fire, burns, electric shock, or other serious injuries. When in use, the appliance becomes hot, and bare skin should not touch hot surfaces. Combustible materials like furniture, pillows, bedding, papers, clothes, and curtains must be kept at least 3 feet (0.9 meters) away from the front, sides, and rear of the appliance. Extreme caution is necessary when the appliance is used by or near children or invalids, or when left operating unattended. The appliance should always be unplugged when not in use and must be operated under supervision. It should not be left on without supervision.

Operating an appliance with a damaged cord or plug, or one that has malfunctioned, been dropped, or damaged, is prohibited. Such appliances should be returned to an authorized service facility for examination, electrical or mechanical adjustment, or repair. The fireplace is not designed for outdoor use or in bathrooms, laundry areas, or similar indoor locations where it could fall into a bathtub or other water container. The power cord should not be run under carpeting or covered with throw rugs, runners, or similar floor coverings. It must be arranged away from traffic areas to prevent tripping hazards. To disconnect, all controls must be turned "OFF," and the plug removed from the electrical outlet. The appliance must be connected only to properly grounded outlets.

Users are cautioned against inserting or allowing foreign objects into ventilation or exhaust openings, as this could cause electric shock, fire, or damage to the appliance. To prevent fire, air intakes or exhausts must not be blocked. The appliance should not be used on soft surfaces, like a bed, where openings might become blocked. All electrical appliances have hot and arcing or sparking parts inside, so this fireplace should not be used in areas where gasoline, paint, or flammable liquids are used or stored. The appliance should only be used as described in the manual; any other use not recommended by the manufacturer may cause fire, electric shock, or injury.

It is strongly recommended to use a dedicated 15-amp outlet for the electric fireplace. Sharing the outlet with other electronic items could lead to overload and long-term damage to both the outlet and the electric items. Using an extension cord is generally discouraged due to the risk of overheating and fire. However, if an extension cord is absolutely necessary, it must be a minimum of 14AWG size, rated not less than 1875 Watts, be a 3-prong cord with a grounding-type plug and cord connection, and not exceed 20 feet (6 meters) in length. When transporting or storing the appliance, both the unit and power cord/plug must be kept dry, free from excessive vibration, and away from heat sources to prevent fire, electric shock, or injury. Users must not attempt to burn wood or other materials in this appliance. The appliance, when installed, must be electrically grounded in accordance with current regulations. For FCC RF Safety, the product should be used at least 20 cm away from the body. The appliance complies with Canada: CSA C22.1, Canadian Electrical Code, and U.S.A.: ANSI/NFPA NO. 70, National Electrical Code.

Operating Instructions:

Before operating, all instructions and warnings must be read. Ensure all controls are in the "OFF" status before plugging the appliance into a properly grounded electrical outlet. This appliance operates on 120 Volts and has a 3-prong grounded plug (Figure 1.A). If the electrical outlet has only 2 slots (Figure 1.B), an adapter (Figure 1.C) must be used to convert from the 3-prong power cord to a 2-slot receptacle. The green grounding plug from the adapter must be securely connected to a permanent ground, such as a properly grounded outlet box. Adapters should only be used if a proper 3-slot receptacle is unavailable. Note: Adapters are not allowed for use in Canada.

A 15 AMP circuit is required for operation. If the breaker trips while the appliance is running, it may need to be moved to another location or other appliances on the same circuit unplugged.

The fireplace control functions can be accessed in two ways:

  1. Using the button control panel, located in the upper right-hand corner of the fireplace.
  2. Using the multifunction remote control.

The main control panel is located at the top right corner on the front (see Figure 2).

Control Panel Functions (Figure 3):

  • Power (A): This button supplies power to all fireplace features. It must be ON for any features to work. The fireplace can be turned ON by pressing the POWER button on either the Control Panel or the Remote Control. When turned OFF, all current settings (except Timer) are stored and restored at the next power ON. Unplugging the unit resets settings to factory default.
  • Flame Button (B): Controls the flame feature and ember effect ON and OFF. When pressed to ON, flame intensity dims up from LOW to HIGH in 3 seconds. When pressed again to OFF, it dims off from HIGH to LOW in 8 seconds. The default flame setting is the highest. Press UP (G) or DOWN (F) to adjust flame brightness, with 5 levels available. When operating, the Display Screen FLAME icon twinkles (Figure 4.B). When adjusting brightness with UP (G) and DOWN (F), the Display Screen shows the corresponding brightness level based on wave number (Figure 4.F). This feature can also be controlled with the Remote Control.
  • Heater Control (C): Controls the heat ON and OFF and switches the temperature reading on the Display Screen. The default heating setting is 95°F (35°C). There are 7 heating levels from HIGH to LOW (95°F/35°C to 65°F/18°C). Pressing UP (G) or DOWN (F) adjusts the temperature in 5°F/3°C intervals. Pressing and holding the HEATER button for 6 seconds switches between Fahrenheit (F) and Celsius (C) on the Display Screen. When operating, the Display Screen HEATER icon twinkles (Figure 4.C). When the heating feature is turned off, the inner blower runs for 30 seconds to cool down the unit and protect heating elements before the fireplace completely shuts off.
  • Timer Control (D): Controls the TIMER feature ON and OFF. Pressing UP (G) or DOWN (F) sets the turn-off time from 0.5H to 8H in 0.5H intervals. Once the TIMER is set, the fireplace continues running in its current status until the countdown reaches 0. When operating, the Display Screen TIMER icon twinkles (Figure 4.D). This feature can also be controlled with the Remote Control.
  • Child Lock (E): Controls the locking feature, locking all control features on the Control Panel and Remote Control (except the child lock on the Remote Control). Press and hold the CHILD LOCK button for 6 seconds to activate. The CHILD LOCK icon on the Display Screen displays "locked" (Figure 4.E), and all fireplace features and Control Panel buttons are deactivated. Press the CHILD LOCK button on the Control Panel for 6 seconds again to resume control functions.
  • Down (F): Used to decrease settings when coordinating with FLAME / HEATER / TIMER buttons. Without these buttons pressed, it functions for FLAME. It will not work if FLAME / HEATER / TIMER is not activated.
  • Up (G): Used to increase settings when coordinating with FLAME / HEATER / TIMER buttons. Without these buttons pressed, it functions for FLAME. It will not work if FLAME / HEATER / TIMER is not activated.

Display Screen (Figure 4):

Pressing any key except POWER on the Control Panel and Remote Control makes the Display Screen flip down after 3 seconds, displaying current functions. Without further operations, the Display Screen automatically flips back up after 17 seconds. The display shows flame level waves, temperature/timer hour, and icons for Heater, Timer, Child Lock, and Flame.

Remote Control (Figure 5):

The remote control comes preassembled with a working battery and an insulation plastic film. Remove the film before use. Buttons on the remote control have the same functions as described for the Control Panel, except for the CHILD LOCK button.

  • CHILD LOCK (E) on Remote Control: Unlike the Control Panel, simply pressing this button cycles through the CHILD LOCK setting without needing to press and hold.
