Do you have a question about the Fein GRIT GICS and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The GRIT GICS cylindrical belt grinder is a stationary machine designed exclusively for grinding and polishing round steel pipes, light metal pipes, and solid round steel bars with diameters ranging from 10 to 160 mm.

Important Technical Specifications:

The device is available in several configurations, indicated by the reference number 7 902.. and suffixes like ..06 00 40 3 or ..06 00 23 3.

  • No-load speed: Ranges from 1440/2880 min⁻¹ to 1725/3450 min⁻¹, depending on the model.
  • Power input: All models have a power input of 2600/3100 W.
  • Voltage: Available in 3x400 V, 3x440 V, and 3x220 V configurations.
  • Frequency: Operates at either 50 Hz or 60 Hz.
  • Grinding-belt speed: Ranges from 15/30 m/s to 18/34 m/s.
  • Weight: All models weigh 200 kg according to EPTA-Procedure 01/2003.
  • Class of protection: All models are Class I.
  • Grinding-belt length: 3000 mm.
  • Grinding-belt width: 75 mm.

Noise Emission Values:

  • Measured A-weighted sound power level (LwA): 86 dB (re 1 pW).
  • Measuring uncertainty (KwA): 3 dB.
  • A-weighted emission pressure power level at the workplace (LpA): 75 dB (re 20 µPa).
  • Measuring uncertainty (KpA): 3 dB.
  • Users are advised to wear ear protection.

Usage Features:

The machine is operated via a control panel with several switches and adjustment mechanisms:

  1. On/Off switch, grinding belt (1): Activates/deactivates the grinding belt.
  2. On/Off switch, brake wheel (2): Activates/deactivates the brake wheel.
  3. Selector switch, belt speed (3): Allows selection between low speed (low material removal) and high speed (high material removal).
  4. On/Off switch, coolant pump (4): Activates/deactivates the coolant pump, which should always be on for high material removal.
  5. Emergency OFF pushbutton (5): Immediately stops the machine in hazardous situations. The machine will run on for approximately 50 seconds after pressing.
  6. Crank for height adjustment of guide rail/guide roller (7): Used to adjust the height of the guide elements.
  7. Scale for height adjustment of guide rail/guide roller (8): Provides a visual reference for height adjustments.
  8. Instruction label, table with setting values (9): Offers guidance on optimal settings.
  9. Lever for applying the brake wheel to the work piece (10): Engages the brake wheel against the workpiece.
  10. Crank for brake wheel clearance (13): Adjusts the distance between the brake wheel and the workpiece.
  11. Star-knob bolt for brake wheel parallelism (14): Adjusts the brake wheel to run parallel to the contact pulley for uniform pressure and grinding pattern.
  12. Star-knob bolt for brake wheel inclination (15): Adjusts the brake wheel's inclination to the left relative to the workpiece, which affects feed speed.
  13. Star-knob bolt for adjusting the tracking of the grinding belt (18): Ensures the grinding belt runs centrally on the drive pulley.
  14. Belt tensioning lever (23): Used to loosen and clamp the grinding belt.
  15. Drum with guide elements (28): Equipped with three optional guiding elements (plastic guide rail for light metal pipes up to 90 mm Ø, brass guide rail for steel pipes up to 90 mm Ø, and guide roller for pipes greater than 60 mm Ø).
  16. Drum lock (29): Secures the selected guide element.

Safety Instructions:

  • Always wear safety glasses, protective gloves, and hearing protection. A dust mask and shop apron are recommended when appropriate.
  • Avoid loose clothing, jewelry, or long hair near moving parts.
  • Never touch the running grinding belt.
  • Do not use worn, torn, or clogged grinding belts.
  • Ensure all protective devices are securely mounted.
  • Be aware of fire and explosion hazards when grinding metals, as dust can be combustible.
  • Regularly clean ventilation slots to prevent metal dust accumulation.
  • Electrical connections must be performed by a qualified electrician.
  • Verify motor rotation direction before first use.
  • Always work with attention and care, especially when feeding and removing material.
  • Perform adjustments and maintenance only when the grinding belt has come to a complete stop.

Maintenance Features:

  • Daily maintenance: Open/remove covers (19)/(31), remove metal dust, and clean the machine inside and out with compressed air.
  • Monthly maintenance: Empty the coolant tank via the drain cock (24). Separate and dispose of water and metal dust/sludge.
  • With each grinding belt replacement: Check the drive pulley (20), contact pulley (22), and deflection rollers for wear and damage. Replace damaged parts.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides a table of common malfunctions, their causes, and corrective actions, such as adjusting belt tracking, brake wheel parallelism/inclination, or coolant supply.
  • Repairs: Repairs should only be carried out by qualified personnel. FEIN customer service, authorized FEIN workshops, or FEIN agencies are recommended for repairs.
