PROBABLE CAUSE
symptom may occur in fac-
tory built flues because the
insulation has settled or a
seam has ruptured. In ma-
sonry flues, mortar loss may
be causing the aspiration of
cooler outside air into the
stack.
• There is an obstruction
outside the chimney, such as
a tree.
• Flue is located too close
to the peak of the roof or
does not rise above it to pro-
vide the proper draft.
• Flue is located too close
to another building.
• Obstruction in chimney.
• Excessive ash accumula-
tion.
• Exhaust by-pass rod in
"CLOSED" position.
• Cast iron damper in the
"CLOSED" position.
• Excessively long stove pipe
run from furnace flue.
• Too many elbows.
• Insufficient draft.
• Excessive smoke accu-
mulation.
SUGGESTED REMEDY
Replace or re-line chimney.
Remove obstruction.
Increase chimney height.
Increase chimney height.
Check entire chimney sys-
tem including stove pipe run.
Utilize chimney cleaning de-
vice to remove any obstruc-
tion or foreign matter.
Remove as necessary.
Always pull the exhaust by-
pass rod completely forward
before opening the loading
door.
