Overview

The Fisher Scientific Mini Vortex Mixer is a compact and powerful laboratory instrument designed for efficient vortexing of micro tubes ranging from 0.4ml to 50ml. This device is available in two models: a fixed-speed version (Model 15212985) and a variable-speed version (Model 15494960). Both models incorporate dynamic balance technology to ensure smooth speed control, quiet operation, and minimal excess vibration, making them reliable tools for various laboratory applications.

Function Description:

The primary function of the Mini Vortex Mixer is to rapidly and thoroughly mix samples in micro tubes through a vortexing action. This is achieved by pressing the tube or vessel downward against the rubber cup head, which activates the mixing mechanism. The vortexing action ensures homogeneous mixing of solutions, suspensions, and other liquid samples, which is crucial for many biological, chemical, and clinical laboratory procedures. The "TOUCH mix" operation mode simplifies usage, allowing for immediate activation upon contact.

Important Technical Specifications:

Model 15212985 (Fixed Speed):

  • Speed: Fixed at 2800 rpm. This constant speed is suitable for applications requiring consistent and vigorous mixing.
  • Operation: TOUCH mix.
  • Head: Standard rubber cup designed for single tube mixing.
  • Dimensions (WxDxH): 96 x 97 x 64mm. Its compact size allows it to fit easily on crowded benchtops.
  • Weight: 0.5kg (1 lb). Lightweight and portable.
  • Electrical: 100 to 240V, 50-60Hz, 0.6 amps. This wide voltage compatibility makes it suitable for global use.
  • Operating Environment: 4°C to 65°C. Designed to operate effectively across a broad range of laboratory temperatures.
  • Warranty: 2 years.

Model 15494960 (Variable Speed):

  • Speed: Adjustable from 500 to 2800 rpm. This variability provides greater flexibility for different mixing requirements, from gentle agitation to vigorous vortexing.
  • Operation: TOUCH mix.
  • Head: Standard rubber cup designed for single tube mixing.
  • Dimensions (WxDxH): 96 x 97 x 105mm. Slightly taller than the fixed-speed model, likely due to the variable speed control mechanism.
  • Weight: 0.9kg (2 lbs). Still lightweight and easy to reposition.
  • Electrical: 100 to 240V, 50-60Hz, 0.6 amps. Universal power compatibility.
  • Operating Environment: 4°C to 65°C. Ensures reliable performance in various lab conditions.
  • Warranty: 2 years.

Both models are engineered with dynamic balance technology, which is a key feature contributing to their smooth operation and low vibration. This technology minimizes mechanical stress and noise, enhancing user comfort and extending the lifespan of the device.

Usage Features:

  • Compact Design: The small footprint of both models makes them ideal for laboratories with limited bench space.
  • Ease of Setup: To set up the vortex mixer, simply place it on a clean, flat, and stable surface. Pressing down slightly ensures the feet adhere securely, preventing movement during operation. Once positioned, plug the mixer into a properly grounded outlet.
  • Intuitive Operation: The "TOUCH mix" feature simplifies the mixing process. Users activate the vortexing action by simply pressing the tube or vessel downward against the rubber cup head. Mixing ceases when the tube is lifted upward. This hands-on approach allows for precise control over the mixing duration.
  • Versatility: Capable of vortexing micro tubes from 0.4ml to 50ml, accommodating a wide range of common laboratory vessels.
  • Low Vibration and Quiet Operation: The dynamic balance technology significantly reduces excess vibration and noise, creating a more pleasant and stable working environment.

Maintenance Features:

  • Minimal Routine Maintenance: The Mini Vortex Mixer requires very little routine maintenance, simplifying laboratory upkeep.
  • Easy Cleaning: The unit can be cleaned with a damp cloth. This straightforward cleaning procedure helps maintain hygiene and prolong the device's aesthetic and functional integrity.
  • Solvent Avoidance: It is crucial to avoid the use of solvents during cleaning. Solvents can potentially damage the rubber cup head or the ABS plastic housing, compromising the device's performance and appearance. Adhering to this guideline ensures the longevity of the mixer's components.

In summary, the Fisher Scientific Mini Vortex Mixer, available in both fixed and variable speed configurations, is a robust, user-friendly, and efficient tool for laboratories requiring reliable sample mixing. Its compact size, intuitive operation, and minimal maintenance requirements make it a valuable asset for daily laboratory tasks.
