Function Description:
The Hypregun-Plus 5Q serves several critical functions in valve maintenance:
- Drop-Tight Seal: It forms an absolutely tight seal between the valve's sealing surfaces by transmitting sealant through a system of passageways around the valve port. The sealant film, when properly selected for the specific service, can maintain the seal over a wide range of temperatures and pressures.
- Lubrication: The sealant prevents metal-to-metal contact of the valve sealing surfaces by filming over bearing irregularities. This protective film reduces friction, adhesion, shearing, and plowing that can occur when metal surfaces slide against each other.
- Renewable Seat: The device provides a flexible and renewable seat, eliminating the need to disassemble a lubricated valve or remove it from service to replace mildly damaged seats. The sealant, as a structural part of lubricated valves, must possess proper plasticity and resistance to line fluids like solvents and chemicals to form a seal even under pressure.
- Plug Jacking: Utilizing Pascal's Law, the Hypregun-Plus 5Q applies unit pressure to the liquid sealant contained in a sealed vessel, transmitting this force to lift the plug from its tapered seat when needed. This hydraulic means is crucial for freeing stuck plugs.

Usage Features:
- Compact and Highly Efficient: The design is compact, making it suitable for various field and plant maintenance needs.
- Positive Pressure System: Continued positive pressure applied to the side cylinders ensures intimate contact between the follower plate and sealant, allowing the gun to pump sealant at lower temperatures than dispensing equipment without this feature.
- Moisture Trap (Recommended): For low-temperature applications, a moisture trap (not supplied) is advantageous to prevent condensation and freezing in the air motor, which can cause stalling. Air line filters are recommended.
- Can Shield: Each gun is supplied with a can shield to provide added strength to the five-quart sealant cans, which are materially strengthened with welded seams. It is crucial to install the can shield with the opening opposite the can's seam to prevent splitting.
- Air Venting: Proper venting of air from the sealant system is essential for efficient operation and accurate pressure readings. The procedure involves opening the relief valve and valve screw until a steady flow of sealant is obtained without air bubbles.
- Pressure Relief Valve: Factory-adjusted to 125 psi (8.6 bar) cylinder pressure. Exceeding this pressure can damage the gun.
- Ram Needle Valve: Used to raise the follower plate for sealant container insertion and to force the follower plate down onto the sealant.
- Shut-off and Relief Valve: Allows for controlled sealant injection and removal of the button head coupler without turning off the air supply.
- Kick Stand: Spring-loaded kick stand allows the gun to be tilted backward and rolled for mobility.
Maintenance Features:
- Air Motor Lubrication: If the air motor operates slowly due to low temperatures or other causes, introducing light machine oil into the motor through the air supply can free a stalled air motor and improve efficiency.
- Sealant Removal: Any service sealant from the exposed pumping mechanism should be removed to reduce drag and prevent it from entering parts of the gun not designed for this purpose.
- Cylinder Protection: Avoid damaging the thin-walled cylinder surrounding the air motor piston, as imperfections can reduce effectiveness and shorten life.
- Piston and Operating Parts Care: Handle the Hypregun-Plus 5Q with care to prevent bending or denting of pistons or operating parts.
- Clean, Dry Air Source: Use a clean, dry air source. If air is wet, use a filter on the air line to remove water. An oiler in the air supply line with light oil (summer) or methanol (winter) is recommended.
- Repair Reassembly Guidelines:
- When attaching the piston and cylinder (42) to the air motor piston rod (37), they should only be hand tight, with holes aligned, and the roll pin installed.
- When assembling the primer rod and foot valve assembly (45) into the piston, it should be pinned in place with roll pin (38) before it becomes tight, allowing for some "wobble" for self-alignment. The primer rod and foot valve assembly and valve seat (47) should be replaced as a single unit.
- Storage: Store the Hypregun-Plus 5Q and sealant in a reasonably warm place to maintain an operable temperature.
