Why is my FoodSaver Food Saver bag not sealing properly?

  Several factors can prevent your FoodSaver bag from sealing correctly. Ensure the appliance is turned on. Too much liquid in the bag can interfere with sealing, so freeze the contents first. Check for and clean any food debris around the seal areas. Wrinkles in the bag can also cause issues; gently stretch the bag flat when inserting it. Finally, if the appliance has overheated, wait a few minutes for it to cool down before attempting to seal again.

  If air has re-entered the bag after vacuum sealing, several factors could be at play. A wrinkle along the seal might be the culprit; try stretching the bag flat before sealing. Moisture or food material along the seal can also prevent a proper seal, so cut the bag open, wipe the top inside, and reseal it. Sharp food items may have punctured the bag, requiring a new bag. Finally, fermentation or natural gases from the food could be the cause; if this occurs, the food may have spoiled and should be discarded.

  If the vacuum pump is running but not removing air, ensure that one end of the bag is sealed if you are making a bag from a roll. Adjust the bag and try again. Also, check for wrinkles in the bag along the sealing strip and gently stretch the bag flat while inserting the bag into the vacuum channel. Finally, inspect the upper gasket for foreign objects, dirt, or debris and clean the gasket if necessary.

  To properly insert a bag into the vacuum sealer, make sure there is enough bag material to reach the center of the drip tray. Always allow about 75mm extra space to allow the bag to seal tightly around the food contents. Also, gently stretch the bag flat while inserting it into the vacuum channel and ensure that the end of the bag curls down into the vacuum channel.
