Open the unit and inspect the gaskets to make sure they are properly inserted and free of any foreign objects, dirt, or debris. Also, confirm that the lid is latched down completely. If the latch has been left in the 'On' position, the gaskets may be compressed; turn the latch to the 'Open' or 'Store' position and allow 10 to 20 minutes for the gaskets to expand.

Why is the red seal LED flashing on my FoodSaver FM3600 Food Saver?

  If the red seal LED on your FoodSaver is flashing, it could mean several things. The unit may be overheated; allow 20 seconds between seals to prevent this. If the appliance has been used heavily, it may shut off automatically, causing the light to flash. Also, ensure the latch isn't left in the 'On' position, as this can compress the gaskets; turn it to 'Open' or 'Store' and wait 10-20 minutes for them to expand. Wait for 20 minutes for the unit to cool off. If the vacuum pump runs for more than 120 seconds, the Red Light will flash.   If air has re-entered a bag that was previously vacuum-sealed with your FoodSaver, start by examining the seal for any imperfections. Moisture or food material along the seal can prevent proper sealing. If there is a hole, use a new bag. If sharp food items may have punctured the bag, cover them with a soft cushioning material like a paper towel before resealing. Fermentation or the release of natural gases from the food may also cause this issue, indicating spoilage, in which case the food should be discarded. The bag could also be faulty or punctured, so try another bag.
