Why is air not removed from the FoodSaver bag?
    • T
      thomasgomezJul 28, 2025
Air might not be removed from the FoodSaver bag if the open end of the bag isn't entirely inside the vacuum channel or if the bag edge extends beyond it. Check the bag for leaks by sealing it with some air, submerging it in water, and applying pressure; bubbles indicate a leak, requiring a new bag. Also, if using a custom-sized FoodSaver Bag, verify the seal. Avoid creating your own side seams.

Why does air come back into my FoodSaver bag after vacuuming?
    • T
      Thomas BrownAug 2, 2025
If air returns to the FoodSaver bag after vacuuming, check the bag's seal for wrinkles that may cause leakage; if found, cut the bag open and vacuum package it again. Moisture or food material along the seal can also cause leakage; wipe the top inside of the bag to clear any residue before resealing. Sharp-edged food items may have punctured the bag, requiring a new FoodSaver Bag. If none of these conditions exist, the food may have begun to spoil and should be discarded.

What to do if the Mason jar or FoodSaver canister will not vacuum?
    • A
      Amy WilliamsAug 6, 2025
If your Mason jar or FoodSaver canister isn't vacuuming, ensure the jar sealer is centered and firmly pressed over the lid. Check that the rubber gasket on the lid is free from food materials. Make sure the rim of the canister or jar is free of cracks or scratches, as gaps can prevent a vacuum. Avoid overfilling; leave at least one inch between the contents and the lid, and ensure the metal lid of the Mason jar isn't bent.

If the FoodSaver universal lid won't vacuum, ensure the container rim is smooth and flat. Also, check that the rubber gasket underneath the lid and the container rim are free from food materials. Verify the knob on the lid is closing and opening properly and isn't obstructed by food.

What to do if nothing happens when I press the on button of my FoodSaver?
    • J
      Jack NelsonAug 18, 2025
If nothing happens when you press the On button on your FoodSaver, ensure the power cord is firmly plugged into the electrical outlet and that the cord isn't damaged. Verify the outlet is working by plugging in another device. If the Vac 550 has overheated, wait 20 minutes for it to cool down before trying again. Also, wait at least 20 seconds between vacuum packaging or sealing bags to allow the machine to cool, and keep the lid open during this cool-down period.

Why is my FoodSaver bag melting?
    • A
      alexander73Aug 23, 2025
The sealing strip may have become too hot. Always wait at least 20 seconds for the Vac 550 to cool down before vacuuming and/or sealing another bag.
