Transaxle — 3.0L 4V
Removal
1. Remove the battery. For additional information, refer to Section 414-01.
2. Disconnect the mass air flow (MAF) sensor.
3. Disconnect the breather tubes.
4. Remove the engine air cleaner.

Summary

Transaxle Removal Procedure

Initial Preparations

Remove battery, MAF sensor, breather tubes, and engine air cleaner.

Air Intake and Battery System Removal

Remove air filter assembly, battery tray, electrical connectors, and harness.

Manual Control Cable Removal

Remove manual control lever cable, nut, and actuator fitting.

Sensor and Coolant Pipe Disconnections

Disconnect steering, OSS, TSS sensors and remove coolant pipe bracket bolt.

Cooling System and Cowl Removal

Remove coolant pipe bracket nut, bolts, cooling tube nut, and upper cowl.

Support Brackets and Catalytic Converter Nuts

Remove cowl, support brace, install lifting brackets, and remove converter nuts.

Vehicle Lift and Fluid Drain

Raise vehicle, drain transmission fluid, and disconnect HO2S sensors.

Catalytic Converter Assembly Removal

Remove rear bolts from front catalytic converter and remove converter assembly.

Subframe and Halfshaft Removal

Remove subframe assembly and LH/RH halfshafts.

Starter Motor and Ground Cable Removal

Remove battery ground cable nut and starter motor.

Cooler Line Removal

Remove cooler line retaining clips and disconnect cooler lines from fitting.

Transmission Housing and Torque Converter

Remove housing cover and torque converter to flexplate nuts.

Transaxle Support and Bolt Removal

Position transmission jack and remove transaxle retaining bolts.

Final Support Bracket and Transaxle Lowering

Remove support bracket, engine mount, bracket, and lower transaxle.

Transmission Fluid Cooler Maintenance

Remove wiring harness bracket and perform fluid cooler backflushing.
