Safeguard the parked vehicleagainst rolling
away by applying the parking brake. The park-
ing brake actuatesthe spring-loaded parking
brake cylinder.

Applying the parking brake

Moveparking brake lever ? from release
position 1 to fullyapplied position 2,
push it downwards and engageit.
If youcannotmovethe parking brake lever
further, then it is engaged and the parking
brake hasbeenapplied.The ! indicator
lamp in the instrument cluster lights up.
Testingthe parking brake

Apply the parking brake.

Press the top of parking brake lever ?.
While doing so, moveparking brake lever ?
beyond fullyapplied position 2 into control
position 3 and holdit.
The vehiclemustnot move.

If the forceexerted by the spring-loaded
brake cannotholdthe vehicle, securethe
tractor vehiclewithchocks.

Moveparking brake lever ? from control
position 3 back to fullyapplied position 2
and engageit.
Releasingthe parking brake
X
Pull parking brake lever ? upwards from
fullyapplied position 2 and swing it up into
released position 1 as farasitwillgo.
The ! indicator lamp in the instrument
cluster goesout.
If the reservoirpressure in both brake cir-
cuits is at least800 kPa (8 bar/116 psi), the
parking brake releases fully.
If the ! indicator lamp in the instrument
cluster does not go out, the reservoirpres-
sure in the spring-loaded brake circuithas
dropped below650 kPa (6.5 bar/94 psi)
and is too low.
To tow the vehicle, youcan also manually
release the spring-loaded parking brake cylin-
deronthe parking brake (Y page 190).
Frequent-stop brake

WARNING
Whensecuring the vehicleagainst rolling
away with the frequent-stopbrake, the brak-
ing pressure maybetoo low. The vehicle
could rollawayeventhough the frequent-
stop brake is activated.There is ariskofan
accident.
Never leavethe driver's seatwiththe fre-
quent-stopbrake activated and be prepared
to applythe brakes. If the vehiclebeginsto
roll, applythe servicebrake.

WARNING
If youbrake in wintry roadconditions while
the frequent-stopbrake is activated,the
wheels maylockshortly before stopping.
Even if youtake your footoff the brake
pedal, the wheels remainlocked.The vehicle
mayskidorslipaway, e.g.onuphillor
downhillgradients. There is ariskofanacci-
dent.
Never activate the frequent-stopbrake in
wintry conditions.

WARNING
If youdonot stop the vehicleusing the ser-
vicebrake, e.g.whenrolling to astop,the
frequent-stopbrake will not be activated.
The vehiclecould rollaway. There is ariskof
an accident.
Alwaysbrake the vehicletoastandstill
using the servicebrake in order to activate
the frequent-stopbrake.
