Auxiliary heating
Important safetynotes
The auxiliaryheatingoperates independently
of theengineand complementsthe vehicle
heating.
The auxiliaryheatingheatsupthe coolantand
thevehicleinterior and is therefore also easy
on theengineand saves fuel.
You can switch theauxiliaryheatingon/off
usingthe switch clock.
You can use theauxiliaryheatingto:
R
preheat thevehicleinterior and defrostthe
windows
R
be able to start theenginebetterincold
conditions
R
heat thecoolant, whichhelpstoprotect the
engineand savefuel
R
support theheatingwhile theengineisrun-
ning and outside temperatures are low

WARNING
Fuels are highly flammable. Improper hand-
ingoffuelcreates ariskoffireand explo-
sion.
Avoid fire, openflames, smokingand creat-
ingsparks under all circumstances. Switch
offthe auxiliaryheatingbefore refueling.

WARNING
Whenthe auxiliaryheatingisswitched on,
partsofthe vehicle, e.g. theexhaustsystem
forthe auxiliaryheating, can become very
hot.
Flammable material suchasleaves, grass or
twigs may igniteinthe following cases.
If they come into contact with:

hot partsofthe auxiliaryheating's
exhaustsystem
R
theexhaustgas itself
There is ariskoffire.
Whenthe auxiliaryheatingisswitched on,
makesurethat:

hot vehiclepartsdonot come into con-
tactwithflammablematerial
R
theexhaustgasescan flowfreely from the
auxiliaryheating's exhaustpipe
R
theexhaustgas doesnot come into con-
tactwithflammablematerials

DANGER
If you havepreselected aswitch-ontime,
theauxiliaryheatingsystem switches on
automatically.
R
Toxic exhaustfumes may accumulate if
there is insufficientventilation,carbon
monoxide in particular. This is thecasein
enclosed spaces, forexample. There is a
riskoffatal injuries.
R
There is ariskoffireand explosion if
there are highly flammablematerials or
flammablematerials nearby!
If you park thevehicleinthese or similar
conditions, always deactivatethe preselec-
tedswitch-ontimes.
