Overview

This document is a Use & Care Manual for a Frigidaire Microwave Oven, providing comprehensive instructions for its operation, maintenance, and safety.

Function Description

The Frigidaire Microwave Oven is designed for heating, cooking, and defrosting food using microwave energy. It offers a range of cooking functions, including manual cooking with adjustable power levels, quick start options, and specialized auto-cook programs for various food types. The oven features a turntable system to ensure even cooking and a control panel for easy programming. It also includes an exhaust ventilation system to remove steam and cooking vapors, as well as surface lighting for illuminating the cooking area below.

Usage Features

The microwave oven offers a variety of features to enhance usability and cooking convenience:

  • Clock Settings: Users can set the time of day, adjust sound settings (low, normal, high, or off), switch between weight units (pounds/kilograms), and enable a power save mode that turns off the clock display. A demo mode is also available for demonstration purposes, allowing programming functions to work in a rapid countdown without actual cooking power.
  • Quick Start: For immediate heating, the microwave can be set to cook at 100% power for 1 to 6 minutes by simply pressing the corresponding number pad (1-6).
  • Manual Cooking with Power Levels: The oven allows for precise control over cooking by enabling users to set specific cook times (up to 99 minutes and 99 seconds) and choose from 10 different power levels (10% to 100%). This flexibility is useful for foods that require slower cooking, such as roasts or custards.
  • Multiple Cooking Stages: For recipes requiring different power levels or cooking times, the microwave can be programmed for up to two automatic cooking stages.
  • Start/+30 Sec Key: This versatile key can start programmed cooking, initiate a 30-second cook at 100% power, or extend ongoing microwave cooking in 30-second increments.
  • Stop/Cancel Key: This key allows users to erase incorrect entries, cancel timer settings, pause cooking, or cancel a program entirely by pressing it twice.
  • Defrost Function: The microwave offers two defrost modes:
    • Defrost by Weight: Automatically determines the power level and cook time based on the entered food weight (0.1 to 6.0 pounds).
    • Defrost by Time: Allows users to set a specific defrost time (up to 99 minutes and 99 seconds) at a default 30% power level. During defrosting, the oven beeps to prompt users to turn or remove thawed portions of food.
  • Reheat Feature: Provides three preset settings for reheating food based on serving size (8, 16, or 24 ounces), simplifying the reheating process.
  • Melt/Soften Category: This feature uses low power to melt or soften items like butter, chocolate, ice cream, and cream cheese, with specific settings for different amounts.
  • Auto Cook Programs: Pre-programmed settings for common foods, including:
    • Bacon: For 1-3 slices.
    • Dinner Plate: For 1-2 plates.
    • Frozen Entrée: For 10 or 20 oz.
    • Rice: For 1 or 2 cups.
    • Vegetable: Heats 1-4 cups of fresh or frozen vegetables.
  • Popcorn Feature: Designed to pop 3 different commercially packaged microwave popcorn bag sizes (3.3 oz., 3.0 oz., 1.75 oz.), with specific instructions to avoid leaving the oven unattended.
  • Potato Feature: Automatically cooks 1, 2, 3, or 4 potatoes (based on 8 to 36 oz.), with recommendations to pierce potatoes before cooking and allow standing time afterward.
  • Beverage Feature: Heats 1 or 2 cups of beverages, with advice to use microwave-safe containers, stir well, and remove with care after heating.
  • Control Lock: A safety feature that locks the control panel to prevent accidental operation, especially useful when cleaning or to prevent use by children.
  • Exhaust Ventilation: The exhaust fan can be set to high, low, or off to remove steam and cooking vapors. It also has an automatic low-speed setting that activates if the oven temperature becomes too hot, cooling the internal parts.
  • Surface Light: Provides high, low, or off settings to illuminate the cooking surface below the microwave.

Maintenance Features

Regular cleaning and maintenance are crucial for the microwave oven's performance and longevity. The manual provides detailed instructions for various parts:

  • General Cleaning: Emphasizes disconnecting the power cord or leaving the door open to deactivate the oven before cleaning. It advises against using metal scouring pads to avoid electric shock.
  • Exterior: Clean with mild soap and water, rinse, and dry with a soft cloth. Avoid household or abrasive cleaners.
  • Door: Wipe the window with a soft cloth. Metal parts should be wiped frequently. Avoid spray and harsh cleaners that may stain or dull the surface.
  • Stainless Steel Surfaces: For Easy Care™, Smudge-Proof™, or Black Stainless Steel finishes, clean with warm soapy water and a clean sponge or cloth. Rinse with clean water and dry with a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive, chloride, chlorine, or ammonia-containing cleaners. A 50/50 solution of water and vinegar is recommended.
  • Touch Control Panel: Clean with a cloth dampened slightly with water, then dry with a soft cloth. Do not scrub or use chemical cleaners.
  • Interior: Wipe with a soft cloth and warm water. For heavier soil, use baking soda or mild soap, then rinse thoroughly. Avoid abrasive or harsh cleaners and scouring pads. The round wire rack and shelf can be cleaned with hot soapy water or in a dishwasher.
  • Waveguide Cover: Located on the right side of the oven cavity, it is made of mica and requires special care. Keep it clean by wiping food spatters immediately with a damp cloth to prevent overheating, smoke, or fire. It should NOT be removed.
  • Odor Removal: To eliminate cooking odors, combine water, grated lemon peel, and lemon juice in a glass measuring cup, boil for several minutes at 100% power, and let stand until cool before wiping the interior.
  • Turntable/Turntable Support: These components can be removed for cleaning. Wash them in mild, sudsy water, or use a mild cleanser and non-abrasive scouring sponge for stubborn stains. They are also dishwasher-proof.
  • Exhaust Filters: The oven ventilation exhaust filters (part number 5304478913) should be removed and cleaned at least once a month. They can be soaked in hot water with mild detergent, rinsed, and air-dried or washed in a dishwasher. Ammonia should NOT be used as it will corrode and darken the aluminum.
  • Charcoal Filter Replacement: For non-vented, recirculated installations, the charcoal filter (part number 5304464577) should be changed every 6 to 12 months. Instructions are provided for removing the vent grill, pulling out the old filter, and installing a new one.
  • Surface Light Replacement: Instructions are provided for replacing the 1.5W LED surface light (part number 5304499540), which involves disconnecting power, removing the light cover and mounting screw, unplugging the old light, and installing the new one.
  • Oven Light Replacement: Instructions are provided for replacing the 1.5W LED oven light (part number 5304499540), which involves removing the vent grill, light cover, and bracket, then replacing the LED light.

The manual also includes important safety instructions, definitions of warning and caution symbols, precautions against excessive microwave energy exposure, and information on arcing and FCC radio frequency interference. It provides tips for safe microwave cooking, including proper food arrangement, covering, stirring, and standing times, as well as recommended temperatures for cooked foods.
