Overview

This document is a Use & Care Manual for a Frigidaire Room Air Conditioner, providing instructions for its operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Function Description:

The Frigidaire Room Air Conditioner is designed to cool and circulate air within a room. It features an electronic control panel and a remote control for easy operation. The unit offers various modes including Cool, Energy Saver (Econ), Fan Only, and Sleep, allowing users to customize their comfort settings. It also includes a timer function for delayed start or stop, and a filter reset reminder for maintenance. The air conditioner is equipped with directional louvers to control airflow, and some models include a Fresh Air Vent for air exchange.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power Supply Cord: Contains a current detection device to reduce fire risk. It is a 3-prong grounding plug.
  • Temperature Range: The unit can maintain temperatures between 60°F (16°C) and 90°F (32°C).
  • Temperature Display: Capable of displaying temperature in both Fahrenheit and Celsius.
  • Timer Settings: Adjustable in 0.5-hour increments up to 10 hours, then 1-hour increments up to 24 hours.
  • Compressor Delay: An automatic 3-minute time delayed start for the "Cool" circuit to prevent overheating and circuit breaker tripping.
  • Fan Speed: Multiple fan speeds (Auto, Hi, Med, Lo) are available.
  • Remote Control Battery: Uses a CR2025 battery.
  • Electrical Rating: Complete electrical rating is found on the serial plate.

Usage Features:

  • Turning Unit On/Off: Press the ON/OFF button on the control panel or remote.
  • Temperature Setting: Use the UP (Λ) or DOWN (V) buttons to adjust the desired temperature.
  • Fan Speed Adjustment: Press the FAN SPEED button to cycle through available speeds (Auto, Hi, Med, Lo).
  • Auto Fan Feature: Starts at High Speed and adjusts to slower speeds based on room temperature.
  • Fan Only Mode: Operates the fan without cooling, useful for air circulation or exhausting stale air. The display shows actual room temperature in this mode.
  • Cool Feature: Maintains a set temperature with the fan running continuously and the compressor cycling on and off.
  • Sleep Feature: Gradually increases the set temperature by 2°F after 30 minutes, and another 2°F after an additional 30 minutes. This new temperature is maintained for 7 hours before returning to the original setting.
  • Timer Function (Delay Stop/Start): Allows scheduling the unit to turn on or off after a set period.
  • Temperature Display Change: Press and hold the UP/DOWN buttons together for 3 seconds to switch between Fahrenheit and Celsius.
  • Air Directional Louvers: Auger type louvers allow directing airflow Up/Down and Left/Right.
  • Fresh Air Vent Control (on some models): Allows selection between Vent Closed (recirculate inside air), Fresh Air (draw fresh air in), or Vent Open (exchange air from the room).
  • Power Outage Memory: The unit memorizes the last setting and returns to it once power is restored.
  • Fault Codes: Displays "AS" if a sensor has failed, indicating a need for service.

Maintenance Features:

  • Air Filter Cleaning: The air filter should be checked and cleaned at least once a month. It can be washed with liquid dishwashing detergent and warm water, or vacuumed. Ensure it is thoroughly dry before replacing.
  • Filter Reset Reminder: An LED light illuminates after 250 hours of operation to remind users to clean the filter. Press the "Filter Reset" button after cleaning to turn off the light.
  • Cabinet Cleaning: The cabinet and front can be dusted with an oil-free cloth or washed with a cloth dampened in a solution of warm water and mild liquid dishwashing detergent. Avoid harsh cleaners, wax, or polish. Ensure controls are dry to prevent damage.
  • Winter Storage: If storing the unit for winter, remove it from the window, cover it with plastic, or return it to its original carton.
  • Energy Saving Ideas:
    • Do not block airflow with blinds, curtains, furniture, shrubs, or enclosures.
    • Ensure the unit capacity matches room size.
    • Install on the shady side of the home, preferably a north-facing window.
    • Close fireplace dampers, floor, and wall registers.
    • Keep blinds and drapes closed during sunny periods.
    • Maintain proper insulation and weather stripping.
    • Use external house shading.
    • Operate heat-producing appliances during cooler parts of the day.
