Overview

This document is a user and care manual for a Frigidaire dishwasher, providing comprehensive information on its operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

The dishwasher is designed to clean dishes by spraying a mixture of hot water and detergent against soiled surfaces. The process involves an initial drain to remove loose soils, followed by filling with water that covers the filter area. Water is then pumped through spray arms, and soil particles are filtered and drained out. This series of steps repeats as needed, with the number of water fills varying based on the selected cycle. The dishwasher incorporates DishSense™ Technology, which assesses the food soil level on dishes and adjusts the cycle accordingly for optimal cleaning.

Usage Features:

The dishwasher offers a variety of wash cycles and options to accommodate different cleaning needs:

  • Wash Cycle Selections:
    • Heavy Wash: Ideal for pots, pans, casseroles, and dinnerware with dried-on or baked-on soils, and silverware. Default settings include Surge pressure, Hi-Temp, and Heat. Options include Scour, Sanitize, and Air.
    • Normal Wash: Recommended for everyday use and suitable for regularly soiled dishes and silverware. Default settings include Surge pressure, Normal temperature, and Heat. Options include Scour-spray, Hi-Temp, Sanitize, and Air.
    • 30 Min Wash: A fast wash for lightly soiled dishes and silverware. Default settings include Scour pressure, Normal temperature, and Air. The only option is Heat.
    • China Crystal: Designed for lightly soiled China and Crystal. Default settings include Spray pressure, Normal temperature, and Heat. No additional options are available.
    • Energy Saver: For lightly soiled pre-rinsed dishes and silverware. Default settings include Surge pressure, Normal temperature, and Air. Options include Scour and Spray.
    • Rinse Only: For rinsing dishes that will be washed later. Default setting is Surge pressure. No additional options are available.
    • Favorite Cycle: This feature allows users to program and save their preferred cycle and options to a single button for quick selection. To save a cycle, users select their desired wash cycle and options, then press and hold the MY FAVORITE CYCLE button for 3 seconds. The LED above the button will illuminate to confirm the save.
  • Wash Pressure: Programmed cycles default to "surge" pressure, which optimally varies pressure for normal use. Users can select "spray" for very low pressure or "scour" for very high pressure for specific circumstances. Not all pressure options are available in all wash cycles.
  • Wash Temp: Cycles default to "normal" temperature. Users can select "HIGH TEMP" or "SANITIZE" by pressing the WASH TEMP pad.
    • Sanitize Option: This option raises the final rinse water temperature to 155°F (68°C) and maintains it for 9 minutes to sanitize dishes and glassware. It is available in Heavy and Normal Cycles and meets NSF requirements. The cycle time extends to reach the proper temperature, and washing continues during this heating delay. The sanitize criteria may not be met if the cycle is interrupted or if the incoming water temperature is below 120°F (49°C).
    • HIGH TEMP Wash Option: Heats water in the main wash to approximately 140°F (60°C) and increases the final rinse temperature to aid drying. This helps detergent remove grease and soil more effectively and improves drying performance.
  • Dry Options:
    • Heat Dry: This option, in combination with rinse aid, enhances drying performance and is available on all cycles. The 30 Min Wash cycle can add fan drying during the dry cycle by selecting the HEAT option, extending the cycle by 30 minutes.
    • Air Dry: This option, also in combination with rinse aid, enhances drying performance and is available on all cycles.
  • Delay Time: Allows users to delay the start of the dishwasher from 1 to 24 hours. The desired delay time is displayed in the status window, and selected cycle/option LEDs illuminate. The countdown begins after pressing the START pad and closing the door.
  • Status Window: Displays delay start hours, remaining cycle minutes, rinse aid dosage level, and "CLOSE" prompts.
  • Status Indicator Lights:
    • CLEAN light: Remains on after the door is opened, indicating the wash is complete.
    • Sanitized indicator: Displays if the SANITIZE option was selected and its criteria met.
    • Green Light: Illuminates on the floor when the wash is complete.
    • Blue Light: Illuminates on the floor to indicate the wash cycle is operating.
  • Child Lock Controls: Locks the dishwasher controls to prevent accidental starting or cycle changes. Activated by pressing and holding both DRY and DELAY TIME pads until a lock icon appears.
  • Starting and Cancelling Cycles: To start, select cycle and options, press START, and close the door immediately. A tone confirms successful start. To cancel, open the door, press START until a tone is heard, then close the door. To cancel a setting before starting, press the CANCEL button.

Loading Features:

The manual provides detailed instructions for loading various items to optimize cleaning and prevent damage:

  • Dish Preparation: Scrape away large food pieces, bones, pits, and toothpicks. Burned-on foods should be loosened. Empty liquids from glasses and cups. Pre-rinsing or using the rinse-only cycle is recommended if the dishwasher won't be operated immediately, especially for foods like mustard, mayonnaise, vinegar, lemon juice, and tomato-based products that can cause discoloration. Ensure large items do not block the detergent dispenser.
  • Cutlery Tray: Designed for flatware and cooking/serving utensils. Heavily soiled items should be placed in the upper rack or silverware basket. Separators help keep flatware separated for better cleaning. Cutlery handles should be placed inwards for optimal cleaning.
  • Upper Rack: Flexible for loading cups, glasses, stemware, small plates, and bowls. Load glasses and plastic items here. Items should be placed with open ends facing down for better cleaning and draining. Delicate items should not touch each other. Long-handled knives and utensils can be placed here. Ensure nothing protrudes through the bottom to block the middle spray arm.
    • Adjustable Upper Rack: The top rack height can be adjusted to accommodate taller dishes. To raise, lift until both sides are at the same height and secure. To lower, lift slightly, then push down and release.
    • Fold-down Tines Upper Rack: Allows for loading extra-large or hard-to-fit items. Tines can be left up for normal use or folded down for flexibility.
    • Cup Shelf/Stemware Holders: Can be folded down to create two levels for cups, juice glasses, or other short items, or folded up for tall glasses. Stemware holders securely hold wine glasses by pressing the stem into the center of the Cupshelf.
    • Soft Grip Rack: Used to secure glassware and plastic items that might move during the wash cycle.
  • Bottom Rack: Best for plates, saucers, bowls, and cookware. Large items should be placed along the edge to avoid blocking spray arm rotation. Bowls, casseroles, and saucepans should have soiled surfaces facing down or toward the center and tilted slightly for better drainage.
    • Fold-down Tines Bottom Rack: Similar to the upper rack, these tines make it easy to load large and hard-to-fit items, offering flexibility.
  • Silverware Basket: Can be loaded in the bottom rack or removed for loading on a counter. Small items like baby bottle caps, jar lids, and corn cob holders can be placed in covered sections. Load sharp items (knives, skewers) pointing down. Mix items in each section with some pointing up and some down to avoid nesting. Do not mix silver and stainless steel to prevent damage.

Maintenance Features:

  • Detergent Dispenser: Uses only fresh automatic dishwashing detergent. For tablets, place one in the main wash cup and close. Add detergent just before starting the cycle. Store detergent in a cool, dry place. The amount of detergent depends on water hardness (measured in grains per gallon). Too little detergent causes poor cleaning and spotting, while too much in soft water can cause etching.
  • Rinse Aid Dispenser: Automatically releases a measured amount of rinse aid during the last rinse to improve drying, reduce water spots, and filming. The indicator is dark when full and clear when it needs refilling. To add, open the cover, pour until liquid touches the fill level, and close. Avoid overfilling.
    • Adjusting Rinse Aid Dosage: Press and hold RINSE ONLY and DELAY TIME pads for 5 seconds. The status window shows rinse aid level (LO-L6). Pressing DELAY TIME increases the level. The setting is confirmed by pressing START or pausing.
  • Filters: The Fine Filter collects large items like broken glass, bones, and pits. The Coarse Filter is located beneath it. Filters need regular cleaning to maximize wash performance.
    • Cleaning Frequency:
      • If scraping dishes before loading: Monthly (8-12 loads/week), Every two months (4-7 loads/week), Once a Year (1-3 loads/week).
      • If scraping and rinsing dishes before loading: Every two months (8-12 loads/week), Once a Year (4-7 loads/week), Once a Year (1-3 loads/week).
      • If washing dishes before loading: Once a Year (all load frequencies).
    • Removal and Cleaning: To remove the Fine Filter, rotate it counterclockwise, lift it out, empty, and rinse under running water. To remove the Coarse Filter, first remove the Fine Filter, then lift and pull out the Coarse Filter from the tub bottom and rinse. Replace both filters, ensuring arrows line up and a click is heard.
  • Outside Cleaning: Wipe with a mild nonabrasive detergent and water, then rinse and dry.
  • Drain Air Gap: If installed, check to ensure it is clean for proper drainage. This is not part of the dishwasher and is not covered by warranty.
  • Water Temperature: Hot water (at least 120°F / 49°C) is necessary for best dishwashing and drying. Run the hot water faucet nearest the dishwasher for several minutes before starting a cycle to clear cool water from pipes.
  • Water Pressure: The hot water line must provide pressure between 20 and 120 psi. Low pressure can occur when other water-using appliances are in operation.
  • Winterizing: For dishwashers in unheated areas, disconnect electrical power and water supply, drain water from the inlet valve and drain line. To restore service, reconnect power and water, fill the detergent cup, and run a HEAVY cycle, checking for leaks.
