PL-8C E OWNER’S MANUAL
ON/OFF ROCKER SWITCH:
Furman’s Classic Series 10 amp capacity power switch is specically designed to stand up to the enormous high inrush current
demands of many power ampliers. When the top poron of the switch is pressed ush with the panel, power is present.
EXTREME VOLTAGE SHUTDOWN (EVS) INDICATOR:
The Extreme Voltage LED Indicator is normally o. It is located to the le of the power switch, though during normal use it will NOT be
lit.
The Extreme Voltage indicator monitors a hazard common in the entertainment, remote broadcast, and AV contractor industries:
wiring faults. For example: accidental connecon to 330VAC where 220-240VAC is expected, or an open series neutral from a 208 to
330VAC electrical service. The Furman EVS circuit senses voltages that are so high that operaon would be impossible and shuts the
power down before damage can occur.
Upon inially applying power to the PL-8C E, the Extreme Voltage indicator will illuminate to a bright red if the input voltage is above
the extreme voltage cuto. When this occurs, power will not be applied to the PL-8C E’s outlets. If the unit has been operang with
an acceptable input voltage and subsequently that voltage exceeds 275V, it will shut o power to the outlets and the Extreme Voltage
LED will light.
NOTE: If the mains power is above the high cuto voltage and has caused the EVS circuit to remove power from the PL-8C E’s
outlets, it cannot restore power without the operator manually turning the unit o, then on again. Avoid turning the unit back on
without rst checking the source of the problem and changing the AC source (if necessary).
PROTECTION OK INDICATOR:
Although the Furman SMP circuit assures virtually maintenance-free protecon from transient voltage spikes and surges, nature has a
way of occasionally creang electrical forces that are beyond the capabilies of ANY surge suppression device to absorb without some
degree of damage (such as a direct lightning hit in an outdoor applicaon). In the rare instance that this occurs, the green “Protecon
OK” LED indicator (located to the right of the retractable light tubes), will not be illuminated. If this happens, some level of protecon
from voltage surges will remain, but the PL-8C E’s clamping voltage rang will be compromised and the unit must be returned to
Furman for service.
NOTE: Furman’s Classic Series power condioners do not compensate for high or low AC line voltage. If you frequently move your
rack to dierent locaons, derive power from generators, use very long extension cords, travel internaonally, or are in an area prone
to brownouts, you may benet from the use of one of Furman’s AC Voltage Regulators.
INLET AC CORD SECURITY CLAMP:
The Furman PL-8C E’s detachable AC cord is supplied with a two piece security clamp. The two piece chrome wire security clamp
(located In the AC cord bag) is easily aached to the threaded holes on either side of the AC inlet, and is installed in seconds with a
standard Phillips screw driver.
TROUBLESHOOTING
1.) Symptom: No power to the AC outlets.
Possible Cause: The circuit breaker (located on the rear panel - adjacent to the AC inlet cord) has tripped due to excessive load.
