Why is the picture orientation incorrect on my Furuno Marine Radar?
M
Michael CampbellSep 5, 2025
If the picture orientation is incorrect on your Furuno Marine Radar, it could be due to the Rotary Encoder inside the antenna unit, the SPU board inside the antenna unit, or the MTR-DRV board inside the antenna unit. If the message 'NO HEADLINE SIGNAL' appears, check the heading line signal cable and board connections. If there are no problems with cables or connections, replace the faulty board.

What to do if range changed but radar picture does not change on Furuno FAR-2318?
G
gwendolyn77Aug 25, 2025
If the range is changed but the radar picture does not change on your Furuno Marine Radar, it could be due to a defective range key or a video freeze-up. Try adjusting the range with the control unit or the [RANGE] box several times. If that does not work, try turning the power off and on again to see if the problem might be video freeze up. If still unsuccessful, the keypad may need replacement.

Why is my Furuno Marine Radar properly tuned but has poor sensitivity?
G
Gabriella RobersonAug 26, 2025
If your Furuno Marine Radar is properly tuned but has poor sensitivity, possible causes include a deteriorated magnetron, a detuned MIC, dirt on the radiator face, water ingress to the waveguide or other feeder line, or the second trace echo rejection being active. Consider the following:
1. Check magnetron current with the radar transmitting on 48 nm range. If the current is below normal, the magnetron may be defective and need replacement.
2. Check the MIC detecting current. If it is below the normal value, the MIC may have become detuned and needs tuning.
3. Clean the radiator surface.
4. Remove water from the feeder line.
5. Disable the second-trace echo rejector.

How to display range rings on Furuno FAR-2318?
J
jeremymejiaAug 27, 2025
If range rings are not displayed on your Furuno Marine Radar, it may be because they are turned off. Try turning on the range rings with [RANGE RING] in the [NAVTOOL] menu. If they still do not appear, their brilliance may be too low; adjust their brilliance in the [BRILL] menu.

Why is the antenna not rotating on my Furuno FAR-2318?
D
Donna PetersonSep 10, 2025
If the antenna is not rotating on your Furuno Marine Radar, it could be due to the antenna drive mechanism or the MTR-DRV board. Consider replacing the antenna drive mechanism or the MTR-DRV board.

How to troubleshoot Furuno FAR-2318 Marine Radar true motion orientation?
A
Angela BrockSep 7, 2025
If the true motion orientation is not working correctly on your Furuno Marine Radar, it could be due to an incorrect menu setting, incorrect speed entry, or inaccurate TM display. Select TM orientation mode, enter the correct own ship speed, and ensure that speed and compass inputs are accurate.

Why does my Furuno FAR-2318 Marine Radar show marks, indications, and noise but no echo?
S
Scott DavisSep 2, 2025
If your Furuno Marine Radar shows marks, indications, and noise but no echo (and the transmission leak representing your own ship position is absent), possible causes include activation of the TX high voltage protection circuit, a faulty magnetron, or issues with the MD or SPU boards inside the antenna. To troubleshoot:
1. Reset the power to restore normal operation.
2. Check the magnetron current and replace the magnetron if necessary.
3. Replace the MD board.
4. Replace the SPU board.
