The GARDENA Submersible Pressure Pump 4000/5 Inox is designed for private use in and around the house and garden. Its primary function is to draw clean freshwater from various sources such as wells, shafts, and other water reservoirs. It is also suitable for operating irrigation accessories and systems, making it a versatile tool for garden maintenance. The pump is fully submersible, meaning it is waterproof sealed and can be immersed in liquid down to a significant depth. It is specifically designed to handle clear water and is not intended for pumping corrosive, easily combustible, or explosive substances like gasoline, petroleum, or nitro thinner. Fats, oils, and food items should also be avoided. The temperature of the liquid being pumped must not exceed 35 °C to ensure safe and efficient operation.
For safety, the pump must be operated via a residual-current device with a residual-current rating of ≤ 30 mA, especially when used in swimming pools, garden ponds, or fountains. It is crucial that the pump is not operated when people are in the water. In Austria, pumps used in swimming pools and garden ponds with a firm power cable must be fed via an ÖVE approved isolating transformer, with a rated voltage not exceeding 230 V. In Switzerland, mobile appliances used outdoors must also be connected via a residual-current device. The mains power cable must have a cross-section no smaller than rubber-sheathed cables of designation H07 RNF and a minimum length of 10 m. The power cable should be connected to a socket positioned at a maximum height of 1.10 m from the ground, ensuring the cable leads downwards. Electrical connections must be made in a dry area, protected from flooding. The plug and power cable should be protected from heat, oil, and sharp edges, and the power cable should never be used for plugging off, mounting, or relocating the pump. Instead, the fastening rope should be used for submerging, lifting, or securing the pump. Any extension cables used must meet the requirements of DIN VDE 0620.
Before initial operation, a visual check of the pump is essential to identify any damage, particularly to the power cable and plug. A damaged pump must not be used and should be checked by a GARDENA Service Centre. The pump must always be submerged at least 20 cm in water during operation to ensure it draws water effectively. Dry-running operation should be avoided as it causes increased wear; the pump must be immediately switched off if water fails to flow. Running the pump for more than 10 minutes against a closed delivery side should also be avoided. Users should observe the maximum delivery height. Sand and other abrasive substances can increase wear and reduce the pump's output. The pump is equipped with a thermal motor protector that automatically switches it off if it overheats. Once cooled down, the motor automatically switches on again. When connecting the pump to the water supply system, country-specific sanitary regulations must be observed to prevent non-drinking water from being drawn back in. Consulting a sanitary expert may be necessary.
For initial operation, connecting the hose involves screwing the pump fitting onto the pump's outlet and tightening it manually until the washer fits closely. The hose is then attached to the pump fitting. For optimal delivery capacity, 19 mm (3/4") hoses with GARDENA "Profi" Maxi-Flow System fittings or 25 mm (1") hoses with fittings from a sanitary dealer are recommended. If connecting multiple hoses or accessories, GARDENA Twin-Tap Connector or Four Channel Water Distributor can be directly screwed onto the pump fitting. The fastening rope should be securely tied to the loop provided on the pump. To operate the pump, it must be submerged in the well or water reservoir using the fastening rope. To prevent contamination, the pump should not be placed directly on the ground but should hang freely at least 30 cm above it. The fastening rope must be secured. When using the pump in deep wells or shafts (more than approximately 5 m), the power cable should be guided alongside the fastening rope using clamps. Finally, the power cable is plugged into a mains socket.
Maintenance of the pump is relatively straightforward as it is designed to be virtually maintenance-free. The primary maintenance task involves cleaning the inlet sieve and suction base. Before cleaning, it is crucial to disconnect the pump from the mains to prevent electric shock. To clean, the three rear catches on the pump are pressed in (e.g., with a screwdriver), and the lower part of the suction base is pulled off. The suction base and inlet sieve can then be cleaned. After cleaning, the lower part of the suction base with the inlet sieve is pushed back onto the pump until the three rear catches snap into place. For safety reasons, a damaged turbine can only be exchanged by the GARDENA Service Centre. In case of problems such as the pump running but not delivering water, possible causes include a closed pressure line, air locks in the suction base, or a clogged suction base. Remedies involve opening the pressure line, waiting for the pump to de-aerate automatically, or disconnecting the plug and cleaning the suction base. If the pump doesn't start or suddenly stops, it could be due to the thermal overload switch activating, no power, or dirt particles jamming the suction base. Solutions include cleaning the suction base, checking fuses and electrical connections, and ensuring the media temperature does not exceed 35 °C. If the pump runs but output decreases, a clogged suction base is the likely cause, requiring cleaning. Repairs on electrical parts should only be performed by GARDENA Service Centres. For storage, the pump should be kept away from frost before the first frost sets in. The product must be disposed of properly and not added to normal household waste, in accordance with RL2002/96/EC.
