Overview

The GARDENA smart Irrigation Control 24 V is a sophisticated device designed for the automated management of garden watering systems. It serves as a central component within the GARDENA smart system, allowing users to control sprinklers and various watering setups in domestic and hobby gardens. This product is particularly useful for maintaining garden health during periods of absence, such as holidays, by ensuring consistent and efficient watering.

Function Description:

The primary function of the GARDENA smart Irrigation Control is to automate the watering process for gardens. It operates by controlling 24 V (AC) valves, which in turn manage the flow of water to sprinklers, sprinkler systems, or drip head watering systems. The device is designed to work exclusively with the GARDENA smart Gateway (Art. 19000), which acts as the communication hub for the entire smart system. All programming and control of the Irrigation Control are managed through the GARDENA smart system App, available on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

The Irrigation Control facilitates fully automatic watering according to predefined programs set within the smart system App. This automation ensures that watering occurs at optimal times, such as early morning or late evening, when evaporation rates are lowest, thereby conserving water. The system can manage up to six individual valves, allowing for precise control over different watering zones within a garden.

A key feature is the "Master Channel" (M), which activates simultaneously with any connected valve. This allows for the integration of a garden pump, such as the GARDENA Pump Control (Art. 1273), to supply water to the irrigation system only when a valve is active. This intelligent design optimizes energy consumption by ensuring the pump operates only when necessary.

The device includes an LED display that provides visual feedback on its operational status. A green LED for "Power" indicates that the unit is powered on. The "Connection display/Signal" LED shows the strength of the wireless connection to the Gateway: green for high signal, yellow for medium, red for low, and red flashing if inclusion mode fails. A green "Active watering" LED indicates when watering is currently in progress.

The GARDENA smart Irrigation Control is designed for outdoor use and must be installed in a weatherproof and dust-proof location. It is not intended for indoor use. The product is specifically engineered to control commercially available 24 V (AC) valves, with a maximum electric power consumption of 400 mA per channel.

Usage Features:

The GARDENA smart Irrigation Control is integrated and controlled via the GARDENA smart system App. This app provides a user-friendly interface for setting up and managing watering schedules. Users can define watering days, start times, and durations for each connected valve, offering flexible and customized irrigation plans. The app allows for remote control, enabling users to manage their garden's watering from anywhere with internet connectivity, provided the smart Gateway is connected.

Installation involves mounting the Irrigation Control on a wall. The device comes with screws and dowels for this purpose, with a recommended distance of 120 mm between mounting holes. When installing multiple irrigation controls, a distance of 150 mm between holes is suggested to accommodate cable routing, allowing up to three units to be stacked vertically.

Connecting valves to the Irrigation Control is straightforward. Valves are first connected to a Valve Box (e.g., GARDENA Valve Box Art. 1255), and then the Valve Box is connected to the Irrigation Control using a connection cable (e.g., GARDENA Connection Cable Art. 1280). The connection cable can be made watertight using GARDENA Cable Clips (Art. 1282). The terminals are designed for easy cable insertion, typically requiring a finger, screwdriver, or ballpoint pen to press down the terminal for cable connection. Each valve is assigned a specific terminal (1-6) on the Irrigation Control, and a common terminal (C) is used for the other cable from each valve, simplifying wiring.

The power supply connection is crucial and must be done carefully. The 24 V (AC) power supply unit, provided with the device, must only be connected to the designated 24 V (AC) terminals on the Irrigation Control. Connecting it to other terminals can damage the unit. It is essential to check all wiring before plugging in the power supply to prevent short circuits. The power supply unit itself should be protected from moisture and direct sunlight.

The device also features a "Factory Reset" function, accessible via a reset button. A short press of the reset button initiates a new connection, while holding it down for at least 5 seconds cancels the existing connection and allows for a new one to be established, useful when switching to a different Gateway.

Troubleshooting guidance is provided for common issues. For instance, if the power LED illuminates red, it could indicate undervoltage or a wrong power supply, prompting checks of the power connection and supply. If the active watering LED flashes red, it might signal that a valve cannot open due to a limit of two active valves, or issues like a disconnected valve, single channel overcurrent, or sum overcurrent. Problems with watering programs not being undertaken could stem from manually opened valves, a closed water tap, or faulty wiring. If the device has no function, it might be due to a disconnected or overheated power supply unit. Inclusion issues (inability to connect wirelessly to the Gateway) suggest checking the Gateway connection or selecting an alternative position for the Irrigation Control or Gateway.

Maintenance Features:

Maintenance of the GARDENA smart Irrigation Control is minimal and primarily involves cleaning. The device should be cleaned with a damp cloth, and caustic or abrasive cleaning agents should be avoided. Solvents should not be used.

For storage, the product should be kept away from children. It is important not to store the Irrigation Control outdoors when not in use, to protect it from environmental elements and prolong its lifespan.

Regarding disposal, the product must not be discarded with normal household waste. It should be disposed of in accordance with local environmental regulations, typically through municipal recycling collection centers, adhering to the RL2012/19/EC directive.

The product is backed by a 2-year warranty from GARDENA Manufacturing GmbH for private use, covering material or manufacturing faults. The warranty is fulfilled by providing a replacement product or repairing the faulty unit, at GARDENA's discretion. This warranty is contingent on the product being used as per operating instructions, not being tampered with by unauthorized parties, and using only original GARDENA spare and wear parts. Normal wear and tear, optical changes, and consumables are excluded from the warranty. For any malfunctions not covered by the basic troubleshooting, users are advised to contact the GARDENA service department, as repairs must only be performed by GARDENA-approved service partners or specialist dealers.
