  If your GE Ranges oven isn't working, there are several things to check. First, the thermostat capillary bulb must be clean, unobstructed, and in the correct position, not touching the oven sides and not coated with anything. Also, make sure the oven vent on the back of the range is unobstructed. Check that the oven control is properly set. Incorrect cookware or cookware of improper size may cause the oven to not work. Finally, ensure the oven bottom is securely seated in position.

Also, burner holes around the top of the burner may be clogged, so remove the burners and carefully clean them with a safety pin or paper clip. Finally, make sure the burners are correctly fitted onto the mounting brackets; remove and reinstall them properly if needed.

  A strong odor from your GE Ranges could stem from a couple of reasons. It may be due to an improper air/gas ratio in the oven, in which case you should adjust the oven burner air shutter. See the Installation of the range section of your manual for guidance. Alternatively, if it's one of the first few times you're using the oven, the odor could be from the insulation around the oven liner, which is normal and temporary.
