s ~~]~~~~~~ s~ti~b~~ can occur in knitfabricsthathavebeen improperlystretched
and elongatedby the manufacturer. When thisoccurs, garmentmaybe pressedback
intoshapestir each wash and dry cycle.
* ~ogressive or delayed shrinkage is caused when starchor sizing (insomefabrics)
isgradually removedbylaundering. Thismay alsobe noticedin older garmentsthat
havebeen washedmany timeswithoutpreviousshrinkage.Treatas forrelaxation

~$hrinbge caused by overheating occurs in certain knitfabricsthathavebeen heat-
shaped. When washing, drying or ironingtemperatures exceedthe temperaturesused
to shapeset, shrinkagemayoccur. Thiscannot becorrected, but itcan be preventedby
washingin cool or warm water and drying on Lowor Delicateheat.
~Leavingc~othesin dryer afier tumblingstops. Removeand hang clothesimmediately.
~Toomanyclothesin dryer.Dry only one washerload at a time. Do notcombineloads.
~bproper loads. AvoidlaunderingheavyPermanent Press items, such as work
clothes, with lighterPermanent Press items suchas shirtsor blouses. Do not wash
Permanent Press items with regular laundry.
~Toomany clothes in washer. Permanent Press loads shouldalwaysbe smaller than
regular loads. . .no more than mediumloads to give clothesroom to movefreely.
~Incorrect wash and dry cycles. UsePermanent Press Washcyclewhich providesa
cooldownrinse to minimize wrinkling. Also use Permanent Press Dry cycle.
s Incorrect water level. Use Large WaterLevelfor Medium Load, Medium Levelfor
SmallLoad.
~Repeated washingin water which is too hot. Washin cold or warm water with plenty
of detergent.
~Accumulationof lime scale due to use of carbonate detergents. If you must use a
non-phosphatedetergent, avoidthe use of high-carbonate-built detergent.
* Failure to use fabric softener. Proper use will minimize wrinkling.
To remove wrinkles:
~Re-tumble on “Permanent Press” setting.
* Re-rinse and dry on “Permanent Press” setting.
* If unsuccessful, re-tumble on high heat for 10to 12minutes and hang immediately.
* Iron carefully.
~Send to dry cleaners for pressing.
Somewrinklesmayremainwhichcannotberemoved.
QPins on garments or sharp objects left in pockets. Check to make sure all such objects
are removed. Also check wash tub.
QSnaps, hooks, sharp buttons, belt buckles, zippers. Fasten hooks, zippers and
buttons. Remove sharp buttons and belt buckles. This is especially important in
washi~~gknits which snag easily, Turn knits inside out.
