Do you have a question about the General ARG90EL(3) and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

This document is an operating manual for a Fujitsu General Duct Type Air Conditioner, specifically covering indoor units ARG90EL(3) and ARG90TL(3), and outdoor units AOG90EP(3) and AOG90TP(3). The manual provides instructions for operation, safety, maintenance, and troubleshooting, with some features applicable only to "HEAT & COOL MODEL" (Reverse Cycle) units.

Function Description

The Fujitsu General Duct Type Air Conditioner is designed for cooling and, in the case of "HEAT & COOL MODEL" units, heating. It operates by absorbing heat from the outside air and transferring it indoors for heating, or vice versa for cooling. The system is controlled via a remote controller, which allows users to select operating modes, set temperatures, and program various timer functions.

Operating Modes:

  • COOL: Cools the indoor environment.
  • HEAT (for Heat & Cool models): Heats the indoor environment.
  • FAN: Circulates air without cooling or heating.

Special Operating Modes:

  • ENERGY SAVE: This mode is designed to optimize energy consumption. In cooling mode, it slightly raises the set temperature, and in heating mode, it lowers it. The temperature adjustment occurs gradually (e.g., 0.5°C every 30 minutes for cooling, up to a total of 1°C; 1°C every 30 minutes for heating, up to a total of 2°C). This mode can be activated during normal operation or programmed to start with a timer.
  • ZONE CONTROL: When multiple air conditioners are centrally controlled by a single remote, this feature allows specific preset units to be stopped while others continue to operate.

Timer Functions:

  • OFF Timer/ON Timer: Allows users to set a specific time for the unit to turn off or on.
  • WEEKLY TIMER: This advanced timer allows for setting different operating times for each day of the week. Users can program one or two ON/OFF time spans per day with a resolution of 5 minutes. The "DAY OFF" setting provides a one-time cancellation of timed operation for a selected day.

Automatic Features:

  • AUTO Restart: In the event of a power interruption, the air conditioner will automatically restart in the previously selected mode once power is restored.
  • Microcomputer-controlled Automatic Defrosting (for Heating models): When outside temperatures are low and humidity is high, frost can collect on the outdoor unit, reducing heating efficiency. The system automatically initiates a defrost cycle, during which the indoor fan shuts down and "DEFROST" is displayed on the remote controller. This cycle typically lasts 4 to 15 minutes.
  • Low Ambient Cooling: When the outdoor temperature drops during cooling operation, the outdoor unit's fans may switch to a low speed or stop intermittently to maintain optimal performance.

Usage Features

The air conditioner is operated primarily through a remote controller with a clear display.

Basic Operation:

  • START/STOP Button: Turns the unit on and off.
  • MASTER CONTROL Button: Selects the desired operating mode (HEAT, FAN, COOL).
  • SET TEMP./DAY Button: Adjusts the thermostat setting (temperature) or sets the day for timer functions.
  • SET TIME Button: Adjusts the time for timer functions.
  • CLOCK ADJUST Button: Sets the current time and day.

Multi-Unit Control:

  • A single remote controller can manage up to 16 air conditioners, all operating with the same settings.

Safety Precautions:

  • Installation: Must be performed by authorized service personnel.
  • Maintenance: No user-serviceable parts; consult authorized service personnel for repairs.
  • Operation: Avoid prolonged exposure to cold airflow, do not insert objects into ports, do not start/stop by turning off the breaker, and ensure occasional ventilation.
  • Malfunction: Immediately stop operation, turn off the electrical breaker, and consult authorized service personnel if a malfunction (e.g., burning smell) occurs.
  • Environmental: Do not direct airflow at fireplaces, avoid climbing on the unit, do not expose to water, do not operate with wet hands, turn off power for extended disuse, and do not use near inflammable gases.
  • Placement: Ensure electronic equipment is at least one meter away from units.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for optimal performance and longevity of the air conditioner.

Air Filter Cleaning:

  • Frequency: Filters should be cleaned regularly.
  • Method: Use a vacuum cleaner to remove dust, or wash with a synthetic detergent. Dry in a shaded place before reinstalling.
  • Replacement: Filters can be purchased through your local dealer.

Unit Cleaning:

  • Body: Do not use water hotter than 40°C, harsh abrasive cleansers, or volatile agents (benzene, thinner). Do not expose to liquid insecticides or hairsprays.
  • Internal Parts: If the unit will not be used for a month or more, operate it in fan mode for half a day to thoroughly dry internal parts.
  • Professional Inspection: For extended use, internal dirt accumulation can reduce performance. Regular inspections by authorized service personnel are recommended in addition to user cleaning.

Before Maintenance:

  • Always stop the unit and disconnect the power supply by turning off the electrical breaker to prevent injury from the high-speed fan.

Troubleshooting and Self-Diagnosis

The manual includes a section for identifying and resolving common issues, as well as a self-diagnosis function.

Self-Diagnosis:

  • If a problem occurs, the unit stops, and "EE: EE" is displayed on the remote controller.
  • To initiate self-diagnosis, press the SET TIME (▼) and SET TEMP./DAY (▼) buttons simultaneously for more than three seconds. An error code will be displayed.
  • Common error codes indicate issues such as sensor short circuits (E:03, E:05, E:07, E:0B, E:0D), sensor opens (E:04, E:06, E:0A, E:0C), communication errors (E:00, E:01, E:13), power source connection error (E:08), float switch operation (E:09), outdoor high pressure abnormal (E:0E), model abnormal (E:11), indoor fan abnormal (E:12), and outdoor EEPROM abnormal (E:14).

Common Symptoms and Solutions:

  • Doesn't operate immediately: Compressor may have a 3-minute delay after stopping or after the electrical breaker is turned on, to prevent fuse blowouts.
  • Noise is heard: Sound of water flowing in piping or coolant, or sizzling sound during heating (defrosting operation) is normal.
  • Smells: Room smells (furniture, tobacco) absorbed by the unit can be emitted.
  • Mist or steam emitted: Thin mist during cooling (condensation) or steam during heating (defrosting operation) is normal.
  • Air flow stops: Fan may temporarily stop during heating startup to warm internal parts, or if room temperature exceeds the thermostat setting. Also stops during automatic defrosting.
  • Water produced from outdoor unit: Normal during heating due to automatic defrosting.
  • Poor Cooling/Heating performance: Check for power failure, tripped breaker, timer operation, dirty air filter, blocked intake/outlet, incorrect temperature settings, open windows/doors, or heat sources/crowding in the room.

If problems persist or if a burning smell is detected, users are instructed to stop operation, turn off the electrical breaker, and consult authorized service personnel.
