Cleaning / Wash Down
must be cleaned and washed down with diesel fuel at the end of each
work day while the machine is still warm. Daily clean up of the paver
can significantly increase the life of components in the material
handling areas and reduce many mat problems. Abrasive materials which
accumulate in bearing, auger, and hopper areas can break loose and
produce tears in the mat as they pass under the screed. All residual
asphalt materials should be removed from the paver, especially in the
material handling areas, and the surfaces sprayed to "terminate" any
remaining residue. This leaves a petroleum film on surfaces to reduce
the potential for material sticking the next time the paver is used.
The clean up and wash down procedure should be performed away
from the paving site. The paver should be moved to a designated area
and all functions shut off.
WARNING: Diesel fuel is both flammable and slippery, extreme care must be
exercised during the clean up and wash down procedure to avoid fire or
personal injury.
Never wash down the machine while burners are operating. This could
result in fire or explosion!!!
Never smoke or allow other persons who are smoking into the area during
wash down. This could result in fire or explosion!!!
Never stand in the hopper or on or around the augers while the paver is
operating.
Run the augers only when required to gain access to all surfaces and only
after personnel are out of the material handling areas.
