2.2. ElectricalSafety
TheThunderBoltmustbeoperatedusingapowersourcewithanoperatingvoltagecompatiblewith
therequirementsstatedonthedevicelabel.TheThunderBoltistobeusedonlywiththeprovided3‐
pronggroundingtypeplugtoconnecttheinstrument tothemainpowersupply.Itisimportantto
ensure
thepowerswitchisintheOffpositionpriortoconnectingtheThunderBolttothemainpower
supply.
The use of a multi plug is not allowed and it is recommended that the instrument be run from a
dedicatedsocket.Useonlyextensioncableswithaprotectiveconductorandgrounded
contact.The
ThunderBoltusestwofuses,oneACfuse(partnumber5015)andoneDCfuse(partnumber5383).
Fusesthatarenon‐functioningmustbereplacedusingfuseswhichmatchthevalues(nominalvoltage,
nominal current, and type) specified for the instrument.A spare AC fuse is included with the
instrument.
Ifatanytimetheinstrumentbecomesunsafetouse,immediatelyswitchitoffanddisconnectitfrom
themainpowersupply.
2.3. MechanicalSafety
InstallationandserviceoftheThunderBoltiscompletedbyatrainedtechniciantoensureaminimized
exposure of the operator to mechanical risks.Improper handling of the ThunderBolt may cause
seriousdamagetotheinstrumentorresultininjurytotheuser.Avoidtouchingtheprobeandother
movingpartswhile
thesystemisinoperation.Protectivecoversshouldnotberemovedwhilethe
instrumentisonduetopotentialcontactwithmovingparts.Exerciseextremecautionwhenworking
onorneartheperistalticpumpwhenthecoverisnotinplace.Openingsprovidedforventilationare
notmeantasaccess
pointsintothesystem.
Ifthecovermustbeopened duringoperation,verifythatthemovementof theprobehasstopped
before reaching inside the instrument.This should be done cautiously and only when absolutely
necessary.
2.4. BiologicalSafety
Any parts of the ThunderBolt that have come into contact with samples/test reagents are to be
treatedasbeingpotentiallyinfectious.Someofthegeneralpurposereagentshavethepotentialto
cause irritation of the skin and mucous membranes.It is recommended that the operator use
appropriatepersonalprotectiveequipment(PPE)
suchasgloves,labcoat,andeyeprotectionwhile
usingtheinstrument.FordevicesusedinconjunctionwiththeThunderBolt,itistheresponsibilityof
theusertoobserve theinstructions andwarningsprovided bythemanufacturer forproperuse of
reagents.
2.5. SafetyLabels
The ThunderBolt is labeled with unive rsal general warning labels to identify risks which may be
encounteredbytheoperator.
