Overview

The Goldtouch Go!2 Mobile Bluetooth Keyboard (GTP-0044W) is a wireless input device designed for enhanced productivity and ergonomic comfort. It utilizes Bluetooth technology, a short-range wireless standard, to connect seamlessly with multiple computers, other input devices, mobile phones, and handheld devices, eliminating the need for physical cables. This allows for a clutter-free workspace and increased portability.

Function Description:

The primary function of the GTP-0044W keyboard is to provide a comfortable and efficient typing experience across various devices. It acts as a standard keyboard, enabling users to input text, commands, and navigate interfaces on their connected systems. The Bluetooth connectivity ensures a reliable wireless link, making it suitable for both desktop and mobile computing environments.

Usage Features:

PC User Pairing and Troubleshooting:

To connect the GTP-0044W keyboard to a PC, users must first ensure that Bluetooth is enabled on their computer. The pairing process requires checking the device's Bluetooth receiver and ensuring the latest Bluetooth Radio Drivers are installed. This can be verified by accessing the Device Manager in the Control Panel. Under "Bluetooth Radios," users should see either an OEM Bluetooth Radio (e.g., Intel, Broadcom) if their system has integrated Bluetooth, or a "Generic Bluetooth Driver" if a Bluetooth Dongle is connected. It is crucial to use only one Bluetooth receiver to avoid interference. If native Bluetooth is not available, an optional Goldtouch Bluetooth USB Dongle can be purchased, but it should not be used if the computer already has native Bluetooth.

Before pairing, users should validate their Bluetooth Driver by visiting their OEM manufacturer's support site, selecting their computer's make and model, and installing the appropriate driver. A system restart is recommended after driver updates. It's important to note that Windows Update or generic driver searches may not identify the correct OEM drivers.

During the pairing process, users must ensure that the "Allow this computer to turn off this device to save power" option is NOT checked for the Bluetooth Radio in Device Manager. This setting can interfere with the keyboard's functionality.

Pairing Process for PC:

  1. Turn on the keyboard: Ensure the slider switch on the back of the keyboard is set to "PC mode."
  2. Activate pairing mode: Press the "Connect" button on the back of the keyboard. The blue pairing light on the keyboard status bar will blink, indicating it's in pairing mode.
  3. Add a device: Immediately after pressing the Connect button, click "Add A Device" under "Devices and Printers" on the PC.
  4. Select the keyboard: Choose "Goldtouch Bluetooth Keyboard" when it appears on the screen and click "Next."
  5. Enter pairing code: Once the PC recognizes the device, a pairing code will be presented. Enter this code on the GTP-0044W Bluetooth keyboard and press "Enter" on the keyboard.
  6. Driver installation: Allow up to 60 seconds for the system to automatically install the necessary drivers for the new keyboard. The device will be visible but may not function correctly until drivers are updated. The computer will report "The Device Has Been Successfully Installed" upon completion.

Post-Pairing Configuration for PC:

After successful pairing, users should check the "Keyboard devices" section in Device Manager. If multiple keyboards are listed, ensure that all devices under this section are set to "Allow This Device to Wake the computer." For Windows 10 users, this option might not be visible under "Mouse and other pointing devices" due to changes in input device behavior, as devices typically reconnect by default. However, for Windows 7 or 8/8.1, this option should be checked.

Mac User Pairing and Troubleshooting:

For Mac users experiencing Bluetooth disconnects or other issues, troubleshooting often involves checking Bluetooth settings or performing an SMC (System Management Controller) and PRAM (Parameter RAM) reset.

Initial Mac Setup:

  1. Remove existing keyboard: Go to "System Preferences" > "Bluetooth" > "Devices" and remove the Goldtouch Keyboard if it's currently connected.
  2. Check Bluetooth settings: In "System Preferences" > "Bluetooth" > "Advanced," ensure "Allow Bluetooth Devices to Wake Computer" is checked. This allows the keyboard to wake the Mac from sleep.

Mac Pairing Process:

  1. Go to System Preferences/Settings.
  2. Press Connect on your Keyboard.
  3. Select Bluetooth from the Settings list. The Mac will automatically enter search mode.
  4. Enter pairing code: Once the Mac recognizes the device, a pairing code will be presented. Enter this code on the Bluetooth keyboard and press "Enter" on the GTP-0044W.
  5. Driver installation: Allow up to 60 seconds for the system to automatically install the necessary drivers for the new keyboard.

Maintenance Features:

System Manager Controller (SMC) Reset (Mac):

An SMC reset is recommended if the Bluetooth device is not working properly, especially after upgrading OSX versions (Mavericks, Yosemite, El Cap, Sierra). This reset can resolve issues like multiple characters, unresponsiveness, frequent disconnects, or sluggish performance. It resets hardware, driver software, and corrects hardware-related problems. The specific SMC reset procedure varies depending on the Mac model and battery type:

  • Portables with built-in batteries:
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Plug in the MagSafe power adapter.
    3. On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button simultaneously.
    4. Release all keys and the power button at the same time.
    5. Press the power button to turn on the computer.
  • Mac portables with a removable battery:
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter.
    3. Remove the battery.
    4. Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    5. Release the power button.
    6. Reconnect the battery and MagSafe power adapter.
    7. Press the power button to turn on the computer.
  • Mac Pro, Intel-based iMac, Intel-based Mac mini, or Intel-based Xserve:
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Unplug the computer's power cord.
    3. Wait fifteen seconds.
    4. Attach the computer's power cord.
    5. Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.

Parameter RAM (PRAM) Reset (Mac):

A PRAM reset is also recommended if the Bluetooth device is not working properly. This reset can resolve issues with sound volume, display resolution, startup disk selection, or time zone settings that may have been reset.

  1. Shut down your Mac.
  2. Turn it on and immediately hold down Option, Command, P, and R keys together for about 20 seconds.
  3. During this time, your Mac might appear to restart. If your Mac plays a startup sound, you can release the keys after the second startup sound.
  4. After the Mac finishes starting up, you may need to open System Preferences to adjust any settings that were reset.

In rare cases where SMC and PRAM resets do not resolve Bluetooth issues, users may need to trash their Bluetooth Preferences.

General Troubleshooting:

It is crucial that any third-party wireless device (not made by Apple) is in pairing mode before the Mac is put into discovery mode. Initiating discovery mode on the Mac prior to activating pairing on the keyboard can lead to random and unpredictable results.

If issues persist after following all outlined steps, including disconnects, repeating characters, or unresponsiveness, users are advised to contact Goldtouch support via email.
