Why is my Gourmet Maxx Toaster smoking so much?

If your Gourmet Maxx Toaster emits large amounts of smoke, the crumb tray might be full. Disconnect the plug, let the toaster cool off, and then clean out the crumb tray. Also, check if the toast is too thick, which can also cause smoke. If so, disconnect the plug, let the toaster cool off, and move the operating lever up and down to remove the bread.
