Do you have a question about the Grandstream Networks GHP63 Series and is the answer not in the manual?
The Grandstream GHP63x(W) series of hotel phones are easy-to-use IP phones designed for hotel rooms, hospitals, apartments, dormitories, and other similar environments. These phones can be programmed and customized to meet the specific needs of hotels and their guests. The GHP630W and GHP631W models are equipped with integrated dual-band Wi-Fi for enhanced connectivity.
The GHP63x(W) series offers a comprehensive set of telephony features tailored for hospitality. It supports 2 SIP accounts/lines, allowing for independent SIP servers and users. One account is typically configured for initiating and receiving calls, while the other is for receiving calls, with the default account being administrator-switchable. The phones feature HD speakers and full-band Opus voice codec, ensuring high-quality audio. Advanced jitter-resilience algorithms enable the phones to tolerate up to 30% packet loss without impacting voice quality, crucial for reliable communication. For quick access to services, the phones include 6 programmable keys and 10 speed dial keys, which can be customized for various functions. Telephony features include dial, answer, redial, flash, hands-free operation, voicemail (server-dependent), hold/unhold, mute/unmute, flexible dial plans, and speed dial server redundancy with fail-over call out. The devices also support multicast paging and E911 service, along with GDS Door opening functionality. A new voice message and mute LED indicator provides clear visual cues. For accessibility, the handset offers HAC/VCH (ADA) compliant volume boost, and a magnetic hook switch feature ensures secure placement.
The GHP63x(W) phones are designed for flexible installation, supporting both desktop and wall-mounted configurations. For wall mounting, two dots 100mm apart vertically are marked on the wall, holes are drilled, and plastic expansion bolts and screws are inserted. Wall mount spacers are attached to the back of the phone, which then mounts onto the screws using its "Wall Mount Slots." For desktop use, the phone stand attaches to a slot at the bottom of the phone. Powering the device can be done via a 12V DC power adapter for GHP630W/GHP631W models or through a PoE switch for GHP630/GHP631 models.
Connecting the phone involves plugging the phone cord into the handset RJ9 port and connecting it to the base. The LAN port connects to an RJ45 socket of a hub/switch or router, though this step is optional for Wi-Fi enabled models. For easy deployment, the GHP63x/W comes pre-configured to connect to a default SSID named wp_master with password wp!987@dmin. These settings can be adapted via the web UI.
The phone's factory functions can be accessed by pressing "HOLD" + 2 simultaneously. This menu includes options for Diagnostic Mode (to assess physical keys), Audio Loopback (to test the microphone), LCD On/Off, LCD Diagnostics (to check for screen damage), Certificate Verification (to verify certificate authenticity), Wi-Fi Settings (for GHP630W/GHP631W models to connect to networks), and Factory Reset.
Phone configuration can also be done via a web browser by ensuring the phone is powered and connected to the network, then using its MAC address to access https://<MAC_ADDRESS>.local or by pressing "HOLD" + 0 to display the local IP address. The default username is "admin" and the default random password is found on a sticker at the back of the unit.
Making calls involves dialing a number and pressing # or the Dial key, or waiting a second for the number to be sent. Calls can be completed by on-hook dialing (entering a number while idle, then going off-hook or pressing Speaker/Headset) or off-hook dialing (going off-hook, entering a number, and pressing #). The phone allows switching between handset and speaker modes by pressing the speaker button or unhooking the handset. Multi-purpose keys can be configured for quick dialing of extensions. Answering calls is done by unhooking the handset, pressing the speaker button, or clicking the answer soft key on the LCD. Incoming calls can be rejected using the "End call" soft key. During a call, the hold button or Flash key can be used to put a call on hold or switch between calls. Call transfer options include Attended Transfer (transferring a call after speaking with the new party) and Blind Transfer (transferring directly). The MUTE button allows muting/unmuting the microphone, indicated by a red LED. Voicemail is indicated by a blinking green Message Waiting Indicator, accessible by pressing the Voicemail button and entering the password.
The GHP63x(W) supports firmware upgrades via FTP/TFTP/HTTP/HTTPS, with a fast boot time of 15 seconds. Mass provisioning is facilitated through Grandstream Device Management System (GDMS), TR-069, or AES encrypted XML configuration files, providing a centralized interface for configuration, provisioning, management, and monitoring.
Factory reset can be performed via the LCD menu by navigating to Factory Functions and selecting "Factory Reset." Alternatively, a factory reset can be initiated through the web GUI by navigating to "Upgrade and Provisioning" -> "Advanced Settings" and clicking the "Start" button. Users are warned that a factory reset will erase all configurations and cannot be canceled, so backing up configurations is recommended. The device also includes diagnostic modes within the factory functions to help troubleshoot physical keys and LCD screen issues.
