What to do if my GRE Scanner will not scan when SCAN key is pressed?

  If your GRE Scanner isn't scanning when you press the SCAN key, several factors could be at play: 1. A “birdie” frequency might be programmed. Try tightening the squelch, applying an attenuator, or locking out the “birdie” frequency. 2. The scanner might need a reset or initialization. Follow the steps to reset/reinitialize the scanner. 3. There might be no channels programmed, only one channel programmed, or all channels are locked out. Ensure that the scanner has more than one channel programmed and enabled for scanning. 4. The SQUELCH control might not be adjusted properly. Turn the SQUELCH control clockwise until scanning resumes.

  Poor reception on your GRE Scanner can stem from a few causes: * Weak signals from distant stations: Reposition the radio for best reception. * Attenuator in use on weak signals: Check performance with and without the attenuator activated, and use the setting with the best reception. * Strong signal overload from nearby transmitter(s): Check performance with and without the attenuator activated, and use the setting with the best reception.

  If your GRE Scanner doesn't receive digital transmissions, there are a few potential reasons: * The digital channel or talkgroup may not be using APCO-25 digital modulation. Note that the scanner can only receive APCO-25 C4FM/CQPSK IMBE digital signals. * The digital channel or talkgroup could be encrypted. The scanner will not receive encrypted traffic. * The digital channel or talkgroup might be transmitted from a distant location. Try repositioning the scanner or using an outdoor antenna to improve reception.
