Overview

This document is the Owner's Manual for a Cassette Type Fan Coil Unit (FCU) manufactured by GREE Electric Appliances, Inc. of Zhuhai. It provides detailed information for both commercial and household air conditioner models, specifically FP-51XD-E, FP-51XDS-E, FP-51XDM-E, FP-51XDSM-E, FP-68XD-E, FP-68XDS-E, FP-68XDM-E, and FP-68XDSM-E.

Function Description

The GREE Cassette Type FCU is designed to regulate indoor ambient temperature by circulating air through a heat exchanger. In cooling mode, the unit absorbs air from indoors and passes it over cooling water, thereby reducing the indoor temperature. The cooling capacity is directly proportional to the coolness of the circulating water. In heating mode, the fan forces air over hot water, transferring thermal energy to the indoor air and increasing the ambient temperature. The heating capacity increases with the temperature of the circulating hot water.

The unit incorporates anti-cool-wind and anti-heat-wind functions to enhance user comfort. During heating mode startup or when operating with low water temperature, the fan will temporarily stop to prevent the discharge of cold air. Similarly, during cooling mode startup or when operating with hot water temperature, the fan will stop to prevent the discharge of hot air.

Important Technical Specifications

The FCU models covered by this manual share several common specifications, with variations primarily in airflow volume. Power System: All models operate on 220-240V~50Hz. Outline Dimensions (W×D×H):

  • Body: 600×600×230 mm for all models.
  • Panel: 650×650×50 mm for all models.

Airflow Volume:

Model Series Type CFM m³/h
FP-51X_M-E High 300 510
Medium 247 420
Low 206 350
FP-68X_M-E High 371 680
Medium 318 540
Low 265 450

Operating Environment:

  • The FCU is designed for indoor installation.
  • Environmental temperature range: 5°C to 43°C.
  • Water working temperature range: 7°C to 60°C.
  • A-weighted sound pressure level: Below 70dB.

Testing Conditions (for efficiency and enthalpy exchange):

  • Cooling capacity: Air 27°C DB, 19.5°C WB; water temperature: intake 7°C, outlet 12°C.
  • Heating capacity: Air 21°C DB; water temperature: intake 60°C; water-flow volume is the same as cooling capacity.
  • Freeze-up: Air 27°C DB, 24°C WB; water temperature: 6°C intake, 10°C outlet.
  • Sound power level: Measured according to ISO 5151. Sound pressure levels are calculated at 1m distance from the air-outlet. Noise levels are tested before factory departure.

Usage Features

The unit is intended for use by expert or trained users in commercial settings (shops, light industry, farms) or for household use by lay persons. Installation Requirements:

  • Installation must be performed by qualified personnel according to local rules and this manual.
  • A breaker must be installed in the fixed circuit, with all poles switched off and a contact distance of at least 3mm.
  • The unit is a Type I electric appliance and requires reliable earthing. The yellow-green wire is for earthing only and must not be cut or used for other purposes.
  • The earth resistance must comply with national criteria.
  • The unit should not be used in laundry rooms, bathrooms, or swimming pools.
  • The minimum distance between the unit and any combustible surface is 1.5m.
  • The motorized valve (not supplied with the unit) is required.

Operation:

  • The unit is controlled via a remote controller.
  • An "ON/OFF" button initiates or stops operation.
  • A "MODE" button allows selection of COOL, HEAT, DRY, or FAN modes.
  • Emergency Operation: If the remote controller is missing or batteries fail, the unit can be operated using the "AUTO" button on the cover (NO.II). Pressing this button will set the unit to "AUTO" mode, automatically selecting COOL, HEAT, DRY, or FAN modes. Pressing it again will stop the unit.
  • A "TEST" button on cover NO.II is specifically for testing and forces the air conditioner to operate or stop. It should not be pressed during normal operation.

Maintenance Features

General Maintenance:

  • Regular cleaning of the air filter is essential to maintain heat exchanger capacity and prevent water leakage or abnormal water pump operation.
  • The built-in air filter removes dust and dirt.
  • The appliance should be disconnected from its power source during service and when replacing parts.
  • User maintenance (cleaning) should not be performed by children without supervision.

Troubleshooting (Common Issues and Solutions):

  • System not operating: Check if pause is off, fuse is broken/replaced, power is off/on, plug is loose/tightened, remote controller batteries are replaced, or if the unit is out of remote controller range.
  • Cooling/heating abnormal: Check if objects are blocking air intake/outlet, doors/windows are open/closed, direct sunshine is present/curtains are closed, too many heating sources are present, air filter is dirty/cleaned, water flow volume is low/checked, or water temperature is too high/low.
  • Mist emitted during cooling: This is normal as room air is chilled rapidly.
  • Buzzing noise at startup: This is the starting sound of the thermostat.
  • "Swish" sound: This is the noise of water caused by flow stop and flow change, or the drainage pump operating.
  • Cracking noise: Caused by the panel expanding or contracting due to temperature changes.
  • Dust from units: Normal if starting operation after a long period of disuse, as absorbed dust blows out.
  • Wind from outlet smells: Caused by odors in the room that have gotten onto the unit.

Disposal:

  • The product should not be disposed of with household waste within the EU.
  • It should be recycled responsibly to promote sustainable reuse of material resources.
  • Users should utilize return and collection systems or contact the retailer for environmentally safe recycling.

Installation Maintenance Considerations:

  • Ensure enough space for care and maintenance (height between FCU and ground above 2500mm).
  • The installation place must withstand 4 times the weight of the FCU.
  • Drainage hose must be installed with a downward gradient (1/50 to 1/100) and without rises or traps.
  • The indoor side of the drainage hose must always be heat insulated.
  • After connecting water pipes and motorized valve, start the water pump of the outdoor unit to check for leaks.
  • Wrap sponge around the motorized valve and tube for heat insulation.
  • After field commissioning, water discharge valves, gas release valves, and drain pipes must be properly insulated to prevent condensing and dewing.
