Why does my GreenWorks Pole Saw bar and chain get hot and smoke?
    • C
      Christina MccarthyAug 11, 2025
If your GreenWorks Pole Saw's bar and chain get hot and smoke, several issues could be the cause: * The oil tank may be empty. If so, fill the oil tank. * The discharge port might be blocked. To resolve this, remove the battery pack and clear any dirt from the discharge port. * The inlet opening of the inner oil tank could be blocked. In this case, clean the oil tank and refill it with clean bar and chain lubricant. * The sprocket may be stuck and clogged with debris. To fix this, clean the sprocket and apply clean bar and chain lubricant.

If your GreenWorks Pole Saw motor runs, but the chain doesn't cut correctly, or the motor stops after around 3 seconds, it could be due to these reasons: * The machine may stop when used under load. If this happens, release the trigger and then start the machine again. * The chain may not be lubricated properly. If so, lubricate the chain to decrease friction.

Why is the bar and chain on my GreenWorks 1400102 Pole Saw running hot and smoking?

If the bar and chain of your GreenWorks Pole Saw are running hot and smoking, it could be due to a few reasons. First, check the chain tension, as it may be overtightened. You can refer to the Chain Tension section of the manual for instructions on how to properly tension the chain. Another possible cause is an empty bar lube reservoir, so ensure that the reservoir is adequately filled.
