Product Care & Maintenance - Western Red Cedar will turn a weathered grey if left unfinished. Although no finish is required for
cedar products when used outdoors, a natural oil finish applied regularly will help maintain the beauty and minimize cracking and
drying. It is recommended to use Gronomics Garden Bed Oil (Item # GBO-1Q), a non-toxic, food safe finish that is very easy to
apply. Apply Oil when air and wind temperatures are between 50-90degrees. Avoid applying in direct sunlight.

Overview

This document outlines the assembly and features of a Gronomics Raised Garden Bed, specifically a 3-tier model measuring 48" x 95". The product is designed to provide an elevated gardening space, suitable for various planting needs.

Function Description

The Gronomics Raised Garden Bed serves as a modular, elevated planting area, allowing users to cultivate plants, vegetables, or flowers in a controlled environment. Its raised design can offer several benefits, including improved drainage, reduced bending for gardeners, and protection from ground pests. The 3-tier structure suggests multiple levels for planting, potentially accommodating different plant types or providing varying soil depths. The assembly process involves interlocking wooden components, primarily side rails and posts, to form a sturdy frame. The design emphasizes ease of assembly, with instructions guiding users through a step-by-step process that begins with an upside-down construction and concludes with flipping the bed into its final upright position.

Important Technical Specifications

The raised garden bed is identified by item numbers RGBT 48-95 and RGBT 48-95S, indicating its specific model and dimensions. The overall dimensions are 48" x 95", with a 3-tier structure. The components are made from Western Red Cedar, a material known for its natural resistance to rot and insects, making it suitable for outdoor use without additional chemical treatments.

The parts list details the individual components:

  • Item 1: Corner Post (Quantity: 4) - These are 4" x 4" x 19" posts with two dovetailed sides, featuring a 15-1/4" long dovetail. These posts form the corners of the garden bed.
  • Item 2: Center Post (Quantity: 2) - These are 4" x 4" x 19" posts with three dovetailed sides, also featuring a 15-1/4" long dovetail. These posts provide central support and divide the bed into sections.
  • Item 3: Side Rail (Quantity: 17) - These are 45" x 5-1/2" x 7/8" rails that form the sides of the garden bed.
  • Item 4: Side Rail w/ Logo (Quantity: 2) - These are identical in size to Item 3 (45" x 5-1/2" x 7/8") but include the Gronomics logo. These are typically used on the outermost visible sides of the bed.

The total soil capacity for this garden bed is specified as 39.2 cubic feet, providing a clear indication of the volume of planting medium required.

Usage Features

The assembly process is designed to be straightforward, with clear instructions and visual aids.

  1. Parts Identification: The first step involves verifying all parts against a provided list, ensuring all components are present and accounted for. This is crucial for a smooth assembly. Contact information (1-855-299-6727) is provided for missing or replacement parts.
  2. Side Rail Assembly (Initial): The initial assembly begins with the garden bed upside down. Two corner posts (Item 1) and one center post (Item 2) are positioned, with slots facing appropriately. Two side rails with the logo (Item 4) are installed into the slots, positioned upside down, and slid to the bottom. This process is then repeated for the remaining corner posts and center post using standard side rails (Item 3).
  3. End Rail and Center Support Rail Assembly: Two side rails (Item 3) are installed into the slots at each end of the garden bed, sliding to the bottom. Additionally, one side rail (Item 3) acts as a center support rail, installed between the center posts and slid to the bottom.
  4. Final Side Rail Assembly: The remaining twelve side rails (Item 3) are installed into the slots and slid down.
  5. Garden Bed Completion: After all rails are installed, the garden bed is flipped right side up. An important usage feature highlighted is the adjustment of the center support rail (Item 5, though the parts list only goes up to Item 4, this likely refers to a specific rail or position of Item 3) when filling with soil. It should be raised to the middle of the slots to provide adequate support.

Ground preparation is optional, but leveling the area under the frame is recommended for stability before placing the garden bed and filling it with soil. This ensures an even base and prevents potential shifting or uneven settling of the bed.

Maintenance Features

The primary material, Western Red Cedar, is naturally durable for outdoor use. However, the manual provides specific maintenance recommendations to preserve its aesthetic appeal and longevity:

  • Weathering: Unfinished Western Red Cedar will naturally turn a weathered grey over time.
  • Finishing (Optional): While no finish is required for outdoor use, applying a natural oil finish regularly is recommended. This helps maintain the wood's beauty and minimizes cracking and drying.
  • Recommended Product: Gronomics suggests using their "Gronomics Garden Bed Oil" (Item # GBO-1Q), which is described as a non-toxic, food-safe finish that is easy to apply.
  • Application Conditions: For best results, the oil should be applied when air and wind temperatures are between 50-90 degrees Fahrenheit. Direct sunlight should be avoided during application.

These maintenance guidelines aim to extend the life of the garden bed and keep it looking its best, leveraging the inherent qualities of Western Red Cedar while offering simple steps for enhanced care.
