WARNING: Gas leaks can not always be detected by

smell.

Gas suppliers recommend that you use a gas detector

approved by UL or CSA.

For more information, contact the your gas supplier.

If a gas leak is detected, follow the “WHAT TO DO IF YOU

SMELL GAS” instructions.

What to do if the burner won't ignite on my GSW G850SDEB Water Heater?

  If the burner on your GSW Water Heater won't ignite, start by lighting the pilot. If that doesn't work, make sure the thermostat is set to the desired temperature. A clogged main burner line could be the problem, so try cleaning it. If none of these steps work, the thermostat may be faulty and require testing of the Gas Control Valve/Thermostat. Also, inspect and clean the Base-Ring Filter if it's blocked with lint or dust. Make sure that you provide fresh air ventilation if the heater installed in a confined area. Finally, check if the FVIR Flame Arrestor is blocked with lint/dust and clean it.

  If the burner on your GSW Water Heater won't ignite, there are several possible causes. First, check if the pilot light is lit and light it if necessary. Ensure the thermostat isn't set too low; adjust it to your desired temperature. A clogged main burner line could also be the culprit, so clean it and identify the cause. If the thermostat is non-functioning, test the Gas Control Valve/Thermostat. Also, inspect and clean the Base-Ring Filter if it's blocked with lint or dust, and ensure the heater has adequate fresh air ventilation if it's installed in a confined space. Finally, check if the FVIR Flame Arrestor is blocked with lint/dust and clean it.
