What to do if my GSW 6G40NAV indicates an ECO (Energy Cut Off) Limit Lockout?
    • S
      Sandra MartinAug 28, 2025
To reset the ECO (Energy Cut-Out) on your GSW Water Heater, manual intervention is required. It cannot be reset by cycling power. Here’s the reset procedure: 1. Turn the set point knob to the lowest setting for at least 10 seconds, then return it to the desired set point. 2. You can only manually reset the ECO twice. If the ECO trips a third time, the gas valve will enter a hard lockout, requiring replacement of the gas control.

    • L
      Lawrence MartinezSep 4, 2025
If your GSW Water Heater displays a Pressure Switch Failed Closed, follow these steps: 1. Check that the blower operates and is free of blockages. 2. Verify that all wiring is correct. 3. Ensure the air pressure sensing tubes are properly connected and not kinked or damaged. 4. Make sure the air pressure switch is correct and the air pressure switch (N.O.) is not bypassed (jumpered). 5. Turn the power to the unit “OFF” and check for continuity of the air pressure switch (N.O.) with wires disconnected: * If the pressure switch contacts show continuity (closed circuit), replace the pressure switch. * If the pressure switch contacts are open and all wiring is correct, replace the Gas Control.

    • P
      Pamela ChenNov 22, 2025
If your GSW Water Heater shows a Soft Lockout - Retry Limit - Failed Trial For Ignition, consider the following: 1. Ensure the gas supply is turned on and the gas pressure meets requirements. If the supply pressure is correct but the manifold pressure is off by more than 0.3” WC, replace the control. 2. Verify the supply voltage is between 115 - 125 VAC. 3. Make sure the flame sensor has good contact with a steady burner flame. 4. Clean the flame sensor with ultra-fine steel wool. 5. Confirm the Hot Surface Igniter is correctly positioned for consistent ignition. 6. Inspect the igniter assembly ceramic insulators for cracks and replace the assembly if damaged. 7. Check the igniter's resistance at room temperature (at the plug). Replace it if the resistance is not within 42-76 ohms...
