Overview

The MetalMaster Cold Saw, model CS-315D (S828), is a robust machine designed for cutting metal construction materials of various shapes and profiles. It is suitable for fabrication workshops, machinist shops, and general construction work, offering precision and efficiency in repetitive cutting operations.

Function Description

The primary function of the CS-315D is to cut metal workpieces using a rotating saw blade or cutting disk. The machine is equipped with a disk head assembly that houses the motor, gear transfer system, and the cutting disk. This assembly can be raised and lowered via a control lever, which also incorporates a trigger switch for starting and stopping the cutting process.

A key feature of this cold saw is its ability to perform miter cuts. The disk head assembly can be rotated to achieve various miter angles, which are then secured using a miter lock lever. This allows for versatile cutting operations, accommodating different project requirements.

The machine includes a vise system for securely clamping workpieces during cutting. This system is operated by a hand-wheel, which opens and closes the vise jaws, ensuring stability and safety. For repetitive cuts of materials with the same width, a quick-clamp vise lever is provided, allowing for efficient loading and feeding of workpieces.

To support longer materials and facilitate their movement through the vise, the CS-315D is fitted with a support roller. This roller assists in positioning the stock, enhancing ease of use and accuracy.

An integrated coolant system is crucial for the machine's performance and the longevity of the cutting disk. This self-contained system includes a tank, pump motor, filters, and hoses, ensuring a continuous flow of lubricating coolant to the cutting area. The coolant helps to dissipate heat, reduce friction, and clear shavings, contributing to a cleaner cut and extended tool life.

The machine is designed with safety in mind, featuring a self-adjusting blade guard that prevents contact with the blade during operation. An emergency stop button is also present, allowing for immediate shutdown in case of incorrect operation or dangerous conditions.

Usage Features

Operating the CS-315D involves a clear sequence of steps to ensure optimal cutting quality and safety. Before starting, the operator must select the appropriate cutting disk based on the material's hardness, shape, thickness, and desired tooth pitch. The machine's speed settings should also be adjusted according to the material and cutting requirements.

Loading a workpiece involves opening the vise, placing the material on the flat surface between the jaws, and aligning the desired cut length with the blade. For repetitive cuts, a bar stop can be set to eliminate the need for repeated measurements. The workpiece is then securely clamped using either the hand-wheel or the quick-clamp vise lever.

During the cutting cycle, the operator grasps the control handle, presses the trigger switch to start the motor, and pulls down the control handle to apply steady and constant pressure, guiding the disk through the material. After the cut is complete, the control handle is slowly raised, the stop button is pressed, and the vise is opened to remove or feed the workpiece.

The machine's design emphasizes operator comfort and control, with the operator typically standing in front of the machine and gripping the control handle with one hand. Proper positioning and adherence to safety guidelines, such as wearing eye protection and avoiding loose clothing, are paramount.

The CS-315D is capable of cutting various types of steel, including mild steel, semi-hard steel, hard steel, carbon steels, spring steels, alloyed steels, stainless steel, copper alloys, and cast iron. The choice of tooth shape and cutting angle is critical for achieving an excellent quality cut and efficiency. Fine toothing is recommended for small sections and thin-walled tubular sections, while large toothing is suitable for medium and large solid sections or thick profiled/tubular sections.

Maintenance Features

Routine and special maintenance are essential for the CS-315D to ensure its longevity, optimal performance, and safe operation. The maintenance schedule is divided into daily, weekly, monthly, and six-monthly intervals.

Daily maintenance includes general cleaning to remove dust and shavings, topping off the coolant, inspecting the disk/saw blade for wear, and checking the shields and emergency stops. Raising the head into a high position helps reduce stress on the return spring.

Weekly maintenance involves a thorough cleaning of the machine, including the coolant tank, and greasing the vise screw and sliding surfaces. The housing for the disk/saw blade should also be cleaned, and the saw teeth sharpened if necessary.

Monthly maintenance focuses on checking the tightness of all screws on the motor, pump, vise jaws, and guard. The blade guard should be free from defects, and the hinge pin for the head assembly should be greased.

Six-monthly maintenance requires changing the oil in the reduction unit. This involves removing the connecting plug, unscrewing the control handle, draining the old oil, and pouring in new oil to the specified mark. Reassembling the parts and checking the continuity of the equipotential protection circuit complete this task.

The coolant system also requires regular cleaning. This involves pulling out the drain hose and coolant tank, removing the filter, pouring out the coolant, washing out dirt and debris, replacing the filter, and refilling with a coolant solution of 1:10 ratio of coolant to water.

For lubricating coolant, the manual recommends using oils like SHELL LUTEM OIL ECO, with a minimum dilution of 8-10% oil in water. Proper disposal of used oil products is emphasized, adhering to local regulations.

In case of malfunctions or faults, a troubleshooting guide is provided to diagnose common issues such as tooth breakage, premature disk wear, disk vibration, cuts that are not straight, and the blade sticking in the cut. Remedies often involve adjusting cutting parameters, replacing worn components, or ensuring proper lubrication and gripping of the workpiece. Special maintenance operations, particularly those related to protection and safety equipment, should be carried out by skilled personnel or by contacting the dealer/importer.
