Evaporator
The evaporator coil is an aluminum set of coils
located in the freezer. The refrigerant in the
aluminum coils pulls the heat energy from the air
circulated across it by the evaporator fan causing
the air to become cold.
Evaporator Removal
1. Remove the icemaker (if installed).
2. Remove the evaporator cover (see
Evaporator Cover Removal steps).
3. Remove the evaporator thermistor and
defrost thermostat from the evaporator.
4. Remove the defrost heater with evaporator
harness from the evaporator.
5. Follow recovery procedure (see Evacuation
and Charging Procedure under the
Replacing Sealed System Components
section of this service guide), and disconnect
the inlet and outlet lines of the evaporator.
6. Loosen two 1/4 in. hex head screws.
