Soot and Flyash: Formation and Need for Removal
Theproductsofcombustionwillcontainsmall particlesof
yash.Theyashwillcollectintheexhaustventingsystem
andrestricttheowoftheuegases.Incompletecombustion,
such as occurs duringstartup, shutdown, or incorrect
operationoftheboilerwillleadtosomesootformationwhich
willcollectintheexhaustventingsystem.Theexhaustventing
systemshouldbeinspectedatleasttwicemonthlyuntilan
appropriatecleaningscheduleisdetermined.

Inner Refractory Lining
Thereboxandheatexchangertubeaccessareasarelined
with high-temperature,brous ceramic insulationpanels
(muchlikespacecrafttiles).Thesurfaceofthesepanelsis
hardenedtoresistnormalwearfrombrushingwithanon-
metalbrush.Thepanelsarenotdesignedtobecleanedwith
thescraperorothersharpobjects.Cautionmustbetaken
whencleaningthesepanelsbecausedamagetothemisnot
coveredbythewarranty.Theashpanslidesintotheunitona
railsystem.Thiskeepstheashpanfromcontactingthesides
andoorrefractorypanels.Cautionmustbetakentoensure
thereisnothingontheoorsurfacepriortoinsertingtheashpan.
Ash Removal
It is recommended toremove the ashes when theboiler
isnotinoperation.Thislessensthechancesofcomingin
contactwithhotsurfaces.Ashescanberemovedwhilein
operationbut,extracaremustbetakenincludingwearing
protectivegloves.
Open The Firebox Door
SwingthelatchdownwardandopenthedoorasshowninFig.21.
NOTE: Keep hopper lid, and rebox door closed during
operation and maintain all seals in good condition. Air leaks
will cause low draft conditions, which will result in feeder
shutdown.
Disposal of Ashes:
Ashesshouldbeplacedinasteelcontainerwithatighttting
lid.Theclosedcontainerofashesshouldbemovedoutdoors
immediatelyandplacedonanon-combustibleoororonthe
ground,wellawayfromallcombustiblematerials,pending
naldisposal.Ifashesaredisposedofbyburialinsoilor
otherwiselocallydispersed,theyshouldberetainedinthe
closed container until all cinders havethoroughly cooled.
Otherwasteshallnotbeplacedinthiscontainer.
