  If the pilot light on your HASE Gas Heater won't stay lit, begin by checking the gas pressure to ensure it's neither too low nor too high for the gas being used. Also, make sure that the thermocouple connection at the gas valve is tight. Faulty connections could also be the reason. To check this, measure the voltage between the valve body and the solder connection on the rear of the valve (where the blue wire connects); it should be no less than 7 mV. Lastly, a dirty or plugged pilot could be preventing the pilot from staying lit, so you may need to clean or replace the pilot assembly.

  Smoke may escape into the room for several reasons: the air supply might be inadequate, the butterfly valve might be closed too tightly, the chimney cross section might be too narrow, the flue gas ducts in the stove pipe or chimney might be extremely sooty, wind might be blowing down on the chimney, or fans (bathroom, kitchen) might be creating negative pressure in the living room and drawing smoke from the stove.
