Overview

This document is an owner's manual for the HEATMAXX Bronze Tabletop Patio Heater, model SRPT03. It provides essential information regarding the heater's function, technical specifications, usage, and maintenance.

Function Description:

The HEATMAXX Bronze Tabletop Patio Heater is designed for outdoor use to provide radiant heat for patios, decks, spas, pools, and open working areas. It operates on LP-gas (propane) and is equipped with an Oxygen Deprivation System (ODS) for safety. The heater's primary function is to warm outdoor spaces, ensuring adequate fresh air ventilation is always provided. It is crucial to never use this appliance in enclosed spaces such as buildings, garages, campers, tents, or homes due to the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model Number: SRPT03
  • Certification: CSA (Canadian Standards Association)
  • Rated Heat Input: 10,000 BTU/hr
  • Fuel Type: LP (Liquid Propane)
  • Gas Supply: 16.4 oz LP-Gas cylinder
  • Manifold Pressure: 11.0" W.C. (Water Column)
  • Injector Size (diameter): 0.91mm
  • Safety Features: Flame failure device, anti-tilt switch, and Oxygen Depletion Safety (ODS) pilot.
  • Gas Supply Pressure: Maximum 250 PSI, minimum 5 PSI
  • Assembly Time: Approximately 15 minutes
  • Clearance Requirements:
    • Ceiling/Overhang: 12 inches
    • Side Walls: 10 inches (from the heater's edge)
  • LP-Gas Cylinder Requirements: Must be constructed and marked in accordance with U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) specifications or CAN/CSA-B339. Must be provided with a listed overfilling prevention device and a compatible cylinder connection device.

Usage Features:

  • Outdoor Use Only: This heater is strictly for outdoor use and must not be operated indoors.
  • Gas Leak Detection: Before each use and after connecting a new cylinder or re-assembly, a leak test must be performed using a soapy solution (1 part liquid dish soap to 3 parts water). Bubbles indicate a leak, requiring tightening of connections or service if the leak persists.
  • Lighting Instructions:
    1. Turn the control knob to "OFF."
    2. Open the base assembly door.
    3. Connect the LP cylinder to the regulator inlet by turning counter-clockwise.
    4. Push in the gas control knob and turn counter-clockwise to "IGNITE" then to "PILOT" position to light the pilot. A clicking noise will be heard.
    5. Once the pilot is lit, hold the control knob depressed for approximately 30 seconds, then release.
    6. If the pilot does not stay lit, repeat steps 4 and 5 after 5 minutes. If it still doesn't light, a long stem lighter can be used to manually light the pilot through the ignition hole on the emitter screen while depressing the control knob.
    7. To adjust heat, push in and turn the control knob between "LOW" and "HIGH."
    8. Close the base assembly door.
  • Flame Characteristic Check: The burner flame should primarily be blue, with a small amount of yellow flame being acceptable. If flames extend beyond the emitter grid, or if flame lift, light back, or black spots appear on the grid/reflector, the heater must be turned off immediately and serviced.
  • Initial Use Smoke/Odor: During the first 30 minutes of operation, smoke and odor from manufacturing oils may be present. This is normal and will dissipate. The heater should not produce thick black smoke.
  • Burner Noise: The burner may be noisy when initially turned on. Turning the control knob to "LOW" and then to the desired level can reduce noise.
  • Emitter Screen Color: When the heater is ON, the emitter screen will become bright red.
  • Re-lighting: To re-light a hot heater, turn the control knob to "OFF," wait 5 minutes, then follow the lighting instructions from step 4.
  • Shut Down: Push in and turn the control knob clockwise to "OFF." Disconnect the cylinder from the regulator when the heater is not in use.
  • Gas Leakage Event: If a gas leak is suspected, turn the control knob to "OFF," disconnect the cylinder, wait 5 minutes for gas to dissipate, and if the odor persists, immediately call the gas supplier.
  • Placement: The heater must be placed on level, firm ground, away from combustible materials, gasoline, or other flammable liquids/vapors. It can be installed in partial enclosures with an overhead cover and no more than two side walls, provided at least 30% of the horizontal periphery is permanently open.

Maintenance Features:

  • Regular Cleaning:
    • Keep exterior surfaces clean using warm soapy water. Avoid flammable or corrosive cleaning agents.
    • Keep the burner and pilot assembly area dry. If the gas control is exposed to water, it must be replaced.
    • Keep the appliance area free from combustible materials, gasoline, and other flammable vapors/liquids.
  • Annual Inspection: The unit should be inspected at least annually by a qualified service person for the presence of spiders, spider webs, or other insects, which can obstruct airflow.
  • Airflow Obstruction Check: Ensure controls, burner, and circulating air passageways are clean and unobstructed. Signs of blockage include gas odor with extreme yellow flame, insufficient heat, uneven glow, or popping noises.
  • Burner Hole Cleaning: Clean burner holes using a heavy-duty pipe cleaner or compressed air to remove spiders, insects, or smaller particles.
  • Carbon Deposits: Clean the dome and engine with warm soapy water if carbon deposits develop, as they can create a fire hazard.
  • Corrosion in Salt-Air Environments: In salt-air environments, corrosion occurs more quickly. Frequently check for corroded areas and repair them promptly.
  • Storage:
    • Between uses: Turn the control knob to "OFF," disconnect the cylinder, and store the heater upright in an area sheltered from inclement weather. Cover the heater if desired.
    • Extended inactivity/transport: Turn the control knob to "OFF," disconnect the cylinder, and move it to a secure, well-ventilated outdoor location (not exceeding 125 degrees F). Store the heater upright in a sheltered area and cover it if desired.
  • Safety After Use: Do NOT touch or move the heater for at least 45 minutes after use. Allow all burner elements, emitter, and dome to cool before touching or covering.
