Overview

This document describes the Heatmaxx Pyramid Patio Heater, Model# SRPH98, an outdoor, gas-fired appliance designed for heating patios, decks, spas, pools, and other open working areas. It is a portable unit that uses a 20 lb (9 kg) LP gas cylinder as its fuel source.

Function Description:

The Heatmaxx Pyramid Patio Heater provides radiant heat for outdoor spaces. It operates by burning propane gas within a burner assembly, which then heats a spiral and a glass tube, emitting warmth. The design includes a reflector at the top to direct heat downwards. The unit is equipped with safety features such as a flame failure device and an anti-tilt switch, which automatically shut off the gas supply if the flame goes out or the heater is accidentally tipped over. The front panel is designed to be removable for easier installation of the LP gas cylinder and access to controls.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model Number: SRPH98
  • Certification: UL Listed (GAS-FIRED CUL US LISTED)
  • Height: 89.5 inches (2.27 meters)
  • Rated Heat Input: 40,000 BTU/hr
  • Fuel Type: Propane
  • Gas Supply: 20 lb (9 kg) LP gas cylinder
  • Manifold Pressure: 11 inches W.C.
  • Gas Supply Pressure: Max. 250 PSI, Min. 5 PSI
  • Safety Features: Flame failure device, anti-tilt switch
  • Assembly Time: Approximately 30 minutes
  • Required Tools (not included): Adjustable open-end wrench, Philips screwdriver
  • Battery for Igniter: 1 AAA battery (included)

Usage Features:

The heater is designed for outdoor use only and must never be used in enclosed spaces such as buildings, garages, campers, tents, or homes due to the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. It requires a well-ventilated space.

Safety Precautions during Use:

  • Gas Leaks: If gas is smelled, immediately shut off the gas to the appliance, extinguish any open flames, and if the odor persists, keep away from the appliance and call the gas supplier or fire department.
  • Flammable Materials: Do not store or use gasoline or other flammable vapors and liquids near the heater. Keep the appliance area clear and free from combustible materials.
  • LP-Cylinder Storage: An LP-cylinder not connected for use must not be stored near the appliance. Spare LP-gas cylinders should not be stored under or near the appliance.
  • Cylinder Filling: Never fill the cylinder beyond 80 percent full.
  • Ventilation: Ensure adequate fresh air ventilation and do not obstruct the flow of combustion and ventilation air. Keep ventilation openings of the cylinder enclosure free from debris.
  • Surface Temperatures: High surface temperatures are a hazard. Children and adults should be alerted to this, and young children should be carefully supervised. Avoid burns and clothing ignition by staying away from the heater. Do not touch or move the heater for at least 45 minutes after use, allowing all burner elements to cool.
  • Clothing/Flammable Materials: Do not hang clothing or other flammable materials from or place them near the heater.
  • Windy Conditions: The appliance may shut down in windy conditions exceeding 3 miles per hour (4.83 kilometers per hour).
  • Installation Altitude: Installation at altitudes above 2000 ft (610m) must comply with local codes or ANSI Z223.1/NFPA 54 or CSA B149.1.

Lighting Instructions:

  1. Ensure the control knob is in the "OFF" position.
  2. Fully open the LP cylinder gas valve.
  3. Push in the control knob and turn it counter-clockwise to "IGNITE." Simultaneously push the ignition button and keep the control knob depressed until the burner lights.
  4. If the burner lights, continue pressing the ignition button for 30 seconds before releasing the control knob.
  5. If the burner does not light, release the ignition button, push in the control knob, turn it clockwise to "OFF," and wait 5 minutes before repeating the lighting process from step 3.
  6. Once the burner is lit, turn the control knob to the desired heat output position between "LOW" and "HIGH."
  7. To shut down the appliance, push in the control knob and turn it clockwise to "OFF." Then, turn off the cylinder gas valve.

Flame Characteristic:

The flame pattern at the emitter screen should be visually checked during operation. Normally, the burner flame is yellow. If flames extend beyond the emitter grid, or if there is flame lift, light back, or black spots accumulating on the emitter grid or reflector, the heater should be turned off immediately and serviced/repaired before further use.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance is crucial for optimal performance and safety.

  • Exterior Cleaning: Keep exterior surfaces clean using warm soapy water. Avoid flammable or corrosive cleaning agents.
  • Burner Area: Keep the area around the burner and pilot assembly dry. If the gas control gets wet, it must be replaced.
  • Appliance Area: Maintain the appliance area free from combustible materials, gasoline, and other flammable vapors and liquids. Ensure combustion and ventilation air flow are unobstructed, and cylinder enclosure ventilation openings are clear.
  • Hose Inspection: Visually inspect the visible portion of the hose before each use and the entire hose assembly at least annually for cracks or worn sections. Replace the hose if damage is found.
  • Burner Flames: Visually check burner flames regularly.
  • Pest Control: At least once a year, inspect the unit for spiders, spider webs, or other insects, which can nest in burner orifices and cause dangerous blockages. Clean burner holes with a heavy-duty pipe cleaner; compressed air can help clear smaller particles.
  • Carbon Deposits: Clean the dome and burner screen with warm soapy water if carbon deposits develop to prevent fire hazards.
  • Corrosion: In salt-air environments, corrosion occurs more quickly. Frequently check for corroded areas and repair them promptly.
  • Professional Inspection: The heater should be inspected before each use and at least annually by a qualified service person. Installation and repair should also be performed by a qualified service person.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides a troubleshooting guide for common issues such as the pilot not lighting, burner not lighting, low burner flame, carbon build-up, and thick black smoke, along with possible causes and corrective actions.

Storage:

  • Between Uses: Turn the control knob to "OFF" and the LP cylinder to "OFF." Store the heater upright in an area sheltered from inclement weather (rain, sleet, hail, snow, dust, debris). Covering the heater is recommended to protect exterior surfaces and prevent build-up in air passages.
  • Extended Inactivity/Transport: Turn the control knob to "OFF." Disconnect the regulator from the LP cylinder by turning counter-clockwise and move the cylinder to a secure, well-ventilated outdoor location. Do not store the cylinder in locations exceeding 125 degrees F. Store the heater upright in a sheltered area and cover it if desired. The cylinder must be disconnected and removed from the appliance for indoor storage. A disconnected cylinder must have dust caps tightly installed and not be stored in a building, garage, or any other enclosed area.

Warranty:

The product comes with a one-year limited warranty from the date of purchase, covering defects in material and workmanship. Replacement parts will be supplied free of charge. The warranty excludes damage from non-genuine parts, alteration, abuse, misuse, or shipping damage. It does not cover labor charges or incidental/consequential damage.

For questions, problems, or missing/replacement parts, customers can contact the customer service department at 1-888-909-3888 (7:30 am - 4:30 pm PST, Monday-Friday) or email customerservice@shinerich.us.
