First-Time TV Setup Guide

Overview

This document is a Quick Setup Guide for a Hisense TV, providing essential information for its initial setup, safe operation, and basic maintenance. It covers various aspects from unpacking and installation to making connections and understanding the remote control.

The primary function of this device is to serve as a television, offering visual and audio entertainment. It is designed for individual non-commercial use, with content and services subject to third-party intellectual property rights. The TV is capable of displaying high-definition multimedia content and can be integrated into various home entertainment systems.

Usage Features:

The TV offers a range of features designed for user convenience and an enhanced viewing experience. Upon first use, the TV guides the user through an installation process that includes selecting a language, connecting to the internet (either wired via LAN or wirelessly), choosing the operating country, and agreeing to terms and conditions. This initial setup also allows for enhanced viewing options, linking to a VIDAA account, naming the TV, and selecting a voice assistant.

Connectivity options are extensive, allowing the TV to interface with a variety of external devices. For antenna connections, it supports both VHF/UHF and satellite antennas, with specific jacks for DVB-T/T2/C and DVB-S/S2 signals. The ANT2 jack provides power for satellite antennas, with different power outputs depending on the TV size.

Multiple HDMI ports are available for connecting high-definition devices such as DVD/Blu-Ray players, AV receivers, and set-top boxes. One of these HDMI ports supports Audio Return Channel (ARC), simplifying audio connections to compatible sound systems. Digital Audio Out is also provided for connecting to audio amplifiers or speakers, ensuring high-quality sound output.

For older or analog devices, AV IN ports are available, typically using RCA jacks (Yellow for Video, White for Left Audio, Red for Right Audio). The TV also includes USB ports, which can be used for connecting hard disks or other USB devices, though it's important to note the maximum current consumption and voltage support for these ports. A Common Interface (CI+) slot is present for inserting CAM cards and SmartCards, allowing access to encrypted channels from service providers.

The TV features a built-in Wireless LAN Adapter, supporting various IEEE 802.11 communication protocols (b/g/n for smaller models, a/b/g/n/ac for larger ones), enabling wireless network connectivity. For optimal performance, using an IEEE 802.11n router is recommended, and the distance between the router and TV should be less than 10 meters. The TV also supports Bluetooth for connecting compatible remote controls.

The remote control is a central component of the user experience, offering comprehensive control over the TV's functions. It includes standard buttons for power, input selection, number input for channel selection, and volume/channel adjustment. Special function buttons are present for quick access to the Electronic Programme Guide (GUIDE), Channel List (CH.LIST), and a Quick Setup Menu. Media control functions (play, pause, fast forward, rewind) are also integrated. Navigation through on-screen menus is facilitated by directional buttons and an OK button for confirmation. Additional buttons provide quick access to the Home screen, previous menus (BACK), and various applications (APP buttons). Some remote controls may also feature a microphone for voice commands and a custom button for launching specific inputs or apps. The remote control operates within a range of up to 8 meters, with specific horizontal and vertical angle limitations.

Maintenance Features:

The guide emphasizes several important safety precautions and maintenance tips to ensure the longevity and safe operation of the TV.

Installation and Setup:

  • Stand Installation: The TV comes with base stands that need to be securely attached using provided screws. Instructions vary slightly based on TV size, with some models requiring the TV to be placed face-down and others face-up during stand installation. It's crucial to ensure the TV is stable on its base before use.
  • Wall Mount Installation: For wall mounting, the TV stand should be removed first. Users must follow the instructions provided with the wall mount bracket, ensuring it supports the TV's weight. Spacers should be used between the TV and the bracket, and the TV should be mounted parallel to the wall without leaning. Standard wall mount hole patterns and screw sizes are provided for different TV dimensions.

Cleaning:

  • Before cleaning, the TV must be unplugged from the wall outlet.
  • Only a lightly dampened cloth should be used for cleaning.
  • Abrasive, liquid, or aerosol cleaners are explicitly prohibited as they can permanently damage the cabinet and screen.

Ventilation:

  • The TV cabinet has slots and openings for ventilation, which are essential for reliable operation and to prevent overheating.
  • These ventilation openings must not be covered.
  • The TV should not be placed in a confined space, such as a built-in cabinet, unless proper ventilation is ensured.
  • A minimum gap of 10cm should be maintained around the unit, and the rear of the TV should be at least 6cm away from the wall.

Power and Electrical Safety:

  • The power cord should be routed to prevent it from being walked on or pinched. The main plug serves as the disconnect device and should remain readily operable.
  • During lightning storms or when the TV is left unattended for long periods, it should be unplugged from the wall outlet, and the antenna/cable system disconnected to prevent damage from lightning or power surges.
  • Wall outlets and extension cords should not be overloaded to avoid the risk of fire or electric shock.
  • No objects should be pushed into the TV's openings, and no liquid should be spilled on or into the TV.
  • If an outdoor antenna or cable system is connected, it must be properly grounded to protect against voltage surges and static charges.

Battery Handling:

  • When installing batteries in the remote control, ensure correct polarity (+ and - ends).
  • Only the specified AAA size batteries should be used.
  • Mixing old and new batteries or different types of batteries is prohibited.
  • Used batteries should not be disposed of as domestic waste but according to local regulations.
  • Batteries should not be exposed to heat, direct sunlight, or fire.

General Safety and Servicing:

  • The TV should never be placed in an unstable location to prevent it from falling and causing injury. Using recommended stands or furniture that can safely support the TV is crucial.
  • The TV should be kept away from heat sources and naked flame sources like lighted candles.
  • Servicing should only be performed by qualified service personnel. Users should not attempt to open or repair the TV themselves.
  • If the power cord or plug is damaged, liquid has been spilled into the TV, objects have fallen into it, or it has been exposed to rain/water, the TV should be unplugged, and service personnel contacted.
  • If the TV does not operate normally, only controls covered in the operating instructions should be adjusted. Any other adjustments should be left to a qualified technician.
  • Upon completion of any service, safety checks should be performed to ensure the TV is in safe operating condition.

Disposal:

  • The product should not be damaged, dismantled, or thrown into municipal waste. It should be packed and handed over to an authorized recycler.
  • Packaging and electrical goods should be recycled appropriately at designated collection points to prevent environmental and health hazards.
