EMERGENCIES
If you see or hear steam coming from the engine, stop and switch the engine off. Do
not open the bonnet until the engine has cooled down.
If the temperature gauge is high with no sign of steam:
1.
Pull over and stop the vehicle as soon as it is safe to do so.
2. Switch off your air conditioner.
3. Run the engine at idle speed for about 3 minutes.
The engine cooling fan should be running.
If the fan is not operating and steam is visible:
1.
Switch off the engine.
2. Move away from the vehicle without opening the bonnet.
3. Let the engine cool down.
4. When steam is no longer visible, carefully open the bonnet.
5. Have the vehicle serviced as soon as possible.
If the fan is operating with no sign of steam:
1.
Open the bonnet.
2. Let the engine idle until it is cool.
3. Check the coolant level.
If the fan is operating but the engine temperature does not fall:
1.
Switch off the engine.
2. Open the bonnet.
3. Let the engine cool down.
4. Check the coolant level.
If the coolant level is low, there may be a leak in the cooling system:
Check for leaks in the following areas:
1.
Radiator.
2. Radiator hoses.
3. Radiator connections.
4. Heater hoses.
5. Heater hose connections.
6. Water pump.
WARNING
Do not remove the cooling system cap if the engine and radiator are still hot.
Scalding uid and steam can be blown out under pressure which could cause
serious burns.
