PROPER CLOTHING FOR SAFETY
■ Wear close-fitting clothing. Alwayswear heavy,long
trousers, boots, and gloves. Do not wear jewellery,
shorts, sandals, or go barefoot. Do not wear loose
fittingclothing,whichcouldbedrawnintotheengineor
catchthechainorundergrowth.Wearoveralls,jeans,
orleggingsmadeofcut-resistantmaterialoronesthat
containcut-resistantinserts. Securehairsothatit is
aboveshoulderlevel.
■ Wearnon-slipsafetyfootwearandheavy-dutygloves
toimproveyourgripandtoprotectyourhands.
■ Wear eye, hearing, and head protection when
operatingthisequipment.
REFUELLING (DO NOT SMOKE!)
■ Toreducetheriskoffireandburninjury,handlefuel
withcare.Itishighlyflammable.
■ Mixandstorefuelinacontainerapprovedforpetrol.
■ Mixfueloutdoorswheretherearenosparksorflames.
■ Select bareground, stop the engine,and allow it to
coolbeforerefuelling.
■ Loosenthefuelcapslowlytoreleasepressureandto
keepfuelfromescapingaroundthecap.
■ Tightenthefuelcapsecurelyafterrefuelling.
■ Wipespilledfuelfromtheunit.Move9mawayfrom
refuellingsitebeforestartingengine.
■ Never attempt to burn off spilled fuel under any
circumstances.
BASIC PRECAUTIONS IN THE CUTTING/WORK AREA
■ Donotstandonanyunstablesurfacewhileusingyour
chainsaw,thatincludesladders,scaffolds,trees,etc.
■ Donotstartcuttinguntilyouhaveaclearworkarea,
secure footing, and a planned retreat path from the
fallingtree.
■ Donotcutfromaladder,thisisextremelydangerous.
■ Use extreme caution when cutting small-size brush
andsaplingsbecauseslendermaterialmaycatchthe
sawchainandbewhippedtowardyouorpullyouoff
balance.
■ Whencuttingalimbundertension,bealertforspring-
backsothatyouwillnotbestruckwhenthetensionin
thewoodfibresisreleased.
■ Donotoperateachainsawinatreeunlessyouhave
beenspecificallytrainedtodoso.
■ Beware of the emission of exhaust gases, lubricant
mistandsawdust.
■ Thisproductisverynoisywhenoperating,toprevent
long term hearing damage, wear hearing protection
and keep other persons 15 m away from the work
area.Operatingsimilartoolsnearbyincreasesriskof
injury.Takefrequentbreaks.
■ Useofhearing protectionreducestheabilityto hear
warnings(shouts oralarms).The operatormust pay
extraattentiontowhatisgoingonintheworkarea.
■ Keepbystandersandanimalsoutoftheworkarea.Do
notallowotherpersonstobenearbyduringstartingor
cuttingwiththechainsaw.
NOTE:Thesizeoftheworkareadependsonthejobbeing
performedas well asthe sizeof thetree orwork piece
involved.Forexample,fellingatreerequiresalargerwork
areathanmakingothercuts,i.e.,buckingcutsetc.
PUSH AND PULL
Thereactionforceisalwaysoppositetothedirectionthe
chain is moving. Thus, the operator must be ready to
controlthepullwhencuttingonthebottomedgeofthebar
andthepushwhencuttingalongthetopedge.
NOTE:Yourchainsawhasbeenfullyfactorytested.Itis
normaltondsomeslightlubricantresidueonthesaw.
MAINTENANCE PRECAUTIONS
■ Neveroperateachainsawthatisdamaged,improperly
adjusted,orisnotcompletelyandsecurelyassembled.
■ Be sure that the saw chain stops moving when the
throttle control trigger is released. If the saw chain
moves at idling speed, the carburettor may need
adjusting.Referto“Operation-adjustingidlingspeed”
later in this manual. If the saw chain still moves
at idling speed after adjustment has been made,
contactaHomeliteservicedealerforadjustmentand
discontinueuseuntiltherepairismade.
■ Keepthehandlesdry,clean,andfreeoflubricantor
fuelmixture.
■ Follow the sharpening and maintenance instructions
forthesawchain.
■ Useonlythereplacementguidebarsandlowkickback
chainsspecifiedforyoursaw.Youmustnevermodify
or remove parts from this product or use parts not
recommendedbyHomelite.Thiswillincreasetherisk
ofinjury.
WARNING
All chainsaw service, other than the items in the
operator’smanualmaintenanceinstructions,shouldbe
performedby competentchainsaw servicepersonnel.
If improper tools are used to remove the ywheel or
clutch,orifanimpropertoolisusedtoholdtheywheel
inordertoremovetheclutch,structuraldamagetothe
ywheelcouldoccur which couldsubsequentlycause
theywheeltoburstandseriousinjurycouldresult.
