KICK-BACK
■ Kick-backmayoccurwhenthenoseoftheguidebar
touches an object or when the wood closes in and
pinchesthesawchaininthe cut.Thenoseofguide
barcontactinsomecasesmaycausealightning-fast
reverse reaction kicking the guide bar up and back
towardtheoperator.Pinchingthesawchainalongthe
topof theguidebar maypush theguidebar rapidly
back toward the operator. Either of these reactions
maycauseyoutolosecontrolofthesawwhichcould
resultinseriouspersonalinjury.Donotrelyexclusively
upon the safety devices built into your saw. As a
chainsawuser,youshouldtakeseveralstepstokeep
yourcuttingjobsfreefromaccidentorinjury.
1. With a basic understanding of kick-back, you can
reduceor eliminatetheelement ofsurprise. Sudden
surprisecontributestoaccidents.
2. Keep a good rm grip on the saw with both hands
whentheengineisrunning.Placeyourrighthandon
therearhandleandyourlefthandonthefronthandle
withyourthumbsandngersencirclingthechainsaw
handles.A rmgrip togetherwith a stiffleft armwill
help you maintain control of the saw if kick-back
occurs.
3. Makesurethattheareainwhichyouarecuttingisfree
fromobstructions.Donotletthenoseoftheguidebar
contactalog,branch,fence,oranyotherobstruction
thatcouldbehitwhileyouareoperatingthesaw.
4. Cutathighenginespeeds.Alwayscutwiththeengine
runningatfullspeed.Fullysqueezethethrottletrigger
andmaintainasteadycuttingspeed.
5. Donotoverreachorcutabovechestheight.
6. Follow the manufacturer’s sharpening and
maintenanceinstructionsforthesawchain.
7. Useonlyreplacementbarsandchainsspeciedbythe
manufacturerortheequivalent.

WHITE FINGER RISKS
Prolongeduseofchainsawsexposeoperatorstoharmful
vibration that may lead to white nger risks. Symptoms
includeepisodicblanchingofngersinresponsetocold,
numbnessandtingling.Inextremecases,itwillcauseloss
oftouchsensation.
Anti-vibration system does not guarantee that you will
not suffer white nger risks. Operators should observe
their hands and ngers. If the above symptoms occur,
operatorsshouldseekmedicaladviceimmediately.
