flushcutnexttothemainlimbortrunkuntilyouhave
cutoffthelimbfurtherouttoreducetheweight.This
preventsstrippingthebarkfromthemainmember.
1. Underbuckthebranch1/3throughforyourrstcut(A).
2. Overbuckthebranchtodropit(B).
3. Finishbycuttingsmoothlyandneatlyagainstthemain
member (C) so the bark will grow back to seal the
wound.
WARNING
Ifthelimbstobeprunedareabovechestheight,hirea
professionaltoperformthepruning.
CUTTING SPRING POLES
See gure 37.
A spring pole (A) is any log, branch, rooted stump, or
saplingwhichisbentundertensionbyotherwoodsothat
itsprings backif the woodholding itiscut orremoved.
Onafallen tree,arootedstumphas ahighpotentialof
springingbacktotheuprightpositionduringthebucking
cut to separate the log from the stump. Watch out for
spring-poles;theyaredangerous.
WARNING
Spring poles are dangerous and could strike the
operator causing the operator to lose control of the
chainsaw.Thiscouldresultinsevereorfatalinjuryto
theoperator.
MAINTENANCE
ASSEMBLING THE BAR AND CHAIN
See gure 3. See gure 38 - 47.
DANGER
Neverstarttheenginebeforeinstallingthe guide bar,
chain, drivecase cover, and clutch drum. Without all
thesepartsinplace,theclutchcanyofforexplode,
exposingtheusertopossibleseriousinjury.
WARNING
Toavoidseriouspersonalinjury,readandunderstand
allthesafetyinstructionsinthissection.
1. Alwaysplacetheswitchinthestop“O”positionbefore
youworkonthesaw.
2. Make sure the chain brake is not set by pulling the
chainbrakelever/handguardtowardsthefronthandle
totherunposition.
3. Weargloveswhenhandlingthechainandbar.These
componentsaresharpandmaycontainburrs.
4. Removethe barmounting nutsusing acombination
wrenchora5/8inchspanner.
5. Removetheclutchcover(D),andtheouterguidebar
plate(E).
6. Layoutthenewsawchaininaloopandstraightenany
kinks.Thecuttersshouldfaceinthedirectionofchain
rotation.Iftheyfacebackwards,turntheloopover.
7. Placethechaindrivelinksintothebargroove.
8. Position the chainso there is a loop at the back of
thebar.
9. Holdthechaininpositiononthebarandplacetheloop
aroundthesprocket.
10.Fitthebarushagainstthemountingsurfacesothat
thebarstudsareinthelongslotofthebar.
NOTE:Whenplacingthebaronthebarstudsensure
that the adjusting pin(L) is in the chain tension pin
hole.
11.Replacetheouterguidebarplateensuringthatthebar
pingrooveisatthebottomwiththeupperandlower
edgesangledawayfromtheguidebar.
12.Replacetheclutchcoverandbarmountingnuts.
13.Tightenthebarmountingnutsngertightonly.Thebar
mustbefreetomovefortensionadjustment.
14.Removeallslackfromthechainbyturningthechain
tensioningscrew (M)clockwise until thechain seats
snuglyagainstthebarwith the drivelinksinthebar
groove.
15.Liftthetipoftheguidebaruptocheckforsagging(N).
16.Release the tip of the guide bar and turn the chain
tensioning screw 1/2 turn clockwise. Repeat this
processuntilsaggingdoesnotexist.
17.Hold the tipof theguide barup andtighten thebar
mountingnuts(O)securely.
Thechainiscorrectlytensionedwhenthereisnosagging
ontheundersideoftheguidebar,thechainissnug,but
canbe turnedby handwithout binding.Ensurethat the
chainbrakeisnotset.
NOTE:Ifchainistoo tight,itwillnotrotate.Loosenthe
bar nuts slightly and turn the tension adjuster 1/4 turn
anticlockwise.Liftthetipoftheguidebarupandretighten
the bar nuts securely. Ensure that the chain will rotate
